The job is starting to shape up. How did you like the fit of the side panels? I assume the old panel had spot welds that were drilled out.Looks like the inner panel is galvanized.
The bedskins fit really good. Used a spot weld drill to drill out the spot welds.
And, yes, the inner panel is galvanized.
After the panel adhesive set up. I sanded the seam with 80 grit paper. Applied epoxy primer, then sanded with 80 grit, applied kitty hair bondo. Then sanded with 80 grit, and then applied body filler. Will get more pics.
The truck will be ready for paint on saturday. Took a week off to do the truck.
How much are those body panels? May I ask where you got them? The best deal I could find was $300ish, maybe a little more PER panel. I was hoping LMC Truck was a little high.
looks pretty good, but what are you doing about the stake pocket holes. i would think it might look a little goofy with the front one sitting that far back.
Just so everyone knows. I'm an electrician by trade. Whenever I get laid off, or currently locked out. I work for a friend of mine, who owns a body shop.
FghtinIrshNvrDie, the bedskins were 160 bucks a piece. I got them from a local supplier. Action crash parts. Nationwide company that supplies aftermarket parts to body shops.
fords_forlife, I have a tool box that goes across the front of the bed. Never had enough tie down points, because of the tool box. I re-inforced the center hole. Now, when I need tie down points, I have them.
I look at it being unique. How many six foot beds have a center tie down point?
yeah, I really don't see the problem with the tie down hole at all. Just add another one if it's not suiting your needs. As far as looking goofy, humbug. I didn't even notice.
So I'm not able to order from action crash parts because I'm not a body worker, correct?
Call them. They will sell parts to anyone. Also check out keystone automotive. They are action crash parts competitor.
Don't settle on the first price they quote you.
PM me.
Just so you know, bedskins for a 94 are more expensive from Action crash as compared to the 1986 skins Zanny bought.
From what i can see in your pictures, you may want to consider a wheel arch repair panel, as it is significantly cheaper than a bedskin. It looks like this pic:
I saw the patch panels... They're on broncograveyard for like $35 a piece, and that's great. But I was hoping I could do as little touch-up stuff as possible. 2 seams would be better than a whole mess of seams for each rust hole.
