Does he have factory lights and wiring in his truck? Also with the engine running and the lights on, measure the voltage of each truck at the battery and compare the readings.
i suspect battery voltages r the same in run status both trucks..but will check.
wonder if it may be a bad/poor ground sumwhere as my truck was off road past 2 winters but i found alot of salt along the undercarriage from previous owner/winters?
truck was off road 7 months (this past winter-no trickle charging used) but started right up on first try
Check the body ground from the battery.
Q. Are both yours & your buddies batteries the same rating? Eg. Park a gasoline engine truck next to an identical but diesel (twin batteries) truck and the diesel truck will have brighter headlights.
AL.
When you check the battery voltage, check the voltage at the terminal on one of the headlights too. Certainly the ground is a possible problem as are any of the headlight wiring connections.
If you check the voltage at the headlights(which would be a good check to do), try to figure out how to check the voltage with the headlights still plugged in. If you have a ground problem, this will put a load on the problem area and make the voltage drop. If you just unplug the headlight and check the plug with the meter, you will not get a true realworld reading because the meter draws very little current, and the bad connection would not show up.
You could also check the ground by putting one lead of the meter on the ground connection at the headlight plug, and put the other meter lead on the battery negative. I would take a wild guess and say this reading should not be over .5 volts. Less is better. And also, this check will not work unless the headlight is plugged in and burning while doing the check.
