Has anyone made the swap to the newer a/c compessor? I've already converted my 79' F-150 to 134. I'd like to put on a newer compessor say like off a 2000 and up truck.
There are higher cfm york style ompressors than the stock ones used in these trucks. Just get one like have been used on big rigs with sleeper cabs. I have one that I've used until the AC system developed a leak (probably an O-ring). Anyway, the inside of the cab got too cold and would cause the windows to sweat on the outside (condensation).
If you can find one, you will probably need to change the head on it over to the type that has the threads like your fittings/hoses use. Also, these all use the same length shaft so the pulley and clutch you have will bolt right on. You may need to use the electromagnet on your old compressor because of fitment/spacing issues.
There is a website that shows all of the details about these compressors. I'll see if I can find it again and post it here.
i havent made the swap, but i want too. i havent found much info about it or seen anyone with a different than stock compressor. I would like something smaller, lighter, r134a compatible, and something that takes less power to turn. let me know what you end up doing
