Why stainless? Stainless doesn't rust like your basic exhaust... my last truck had an exhaust system on it that was completely rusted after about a year and a half, making it suseptible to exhaust leaks...I guess Colorado is just the perfect climate for it. I don't like doing things just to have to go back and do it again a year later.
Another question...what are the arguments for a 5" instead of 4"? Seems 4" provides plenty of good airflow.
Since you already have an exhaust, have you considered just putting a good (high flow) muffler on it? People who have tried the Aeroturbine swear by it. I haven't tried it because, at well over $200, it seems a bit pricey for me. But you said money was no object. Check it out. It might be just what you need.
I'll see what mech's cost is on that Aeroturbine. The existing system looks fairly well in tact so just installing the muffler might be an option - although not too much more to just have the entire system redone. All I will have to pay for is the pipe.
No room for a 5" system? I don't think I am interested in straying from the 4" it has now.

Yeah. I live in So California. Rust just isn't an issue here. If I lived (or move to) where rust lives, I'd buy stainless.

Um. Not much. One person on this forum has claimed the 5-inch actually dynos lower - I have yet to see that, and no one else has made such a claim.
Exhaust flow? No, no advantage. EGT? If the EGT is lower, I wouldn't know, and it wouldn't be significantly lower anyway.
Performance? Naw.
There is no practical reason to put a 5-inch exhaust on your truck. None.
How about impractical? It sounds great! With a muffler, it sounds just about as deep as a 4-inch exhaust without a muffler - but I've never heard a 5-incher without a muffler. I can only imagine!
Looks? Well - people in this forum don't refer to it as a Cannon for nothing! I love the way it looks - it is as beefy as the rest of the truck. You have to admit - a V10 with a stock pipe looks like it is using a drinking straw for exhaust...
A number of people here have them and love them - for aesthetic reasons: sound, looks, and sound. If you are being practical and would rather spend the $100 premium for a 5-incher on something else, do it.
I have a 5-incher because, after all the invisible, 'practical' mods I made on my truck, this is my extravagance. It is a plain, drab, XL standard cab. Even the wheels are stock - and the tires are only 285/75, barely bigger than stock. My truck is very subtle - well, except for the cannon.

Arninetyes - at least you can admit to your impracticality. A CRAPLOAD of mods done to these trucks is more aesthetic than anything! After all...we wouldn't own these trucks if we didn't think they LOOKED and SOUNDED completely awesome, despite their obvious mechanical superiority.
This thread has been interesting. If anything, I always come away from these conversations learning a thing or two.
Nothing wrong with being impractical. I am a girl, after all, which means that a lot of things I do are completely impractical.....
Arninetyes...the rest of my truck takes the cake, I don't really need to steal the show with a 5"... I just want to stick with what will be best for the truck.
5" exhaust is insane IMO! That is the same as what is on our semi's! I went and looked at some exhaust systems today, just for the heck of it, but at $1200 installed for a 4" and $1300 for a 5" its a little out of my price range, plus it already has a 3.5" on it. Its just the retarted downpipe that needs to be repaces, the same as our 6.5L GMC.
Also, will going to a 5" be hard on the turbo due to lack of back preassure?
I went with banks, power elbow and 4 inch tubing, no muff, and pipe exits in front of rear tire. Nice. I love pulling up next to euro-trash racers and standing on it, gives them a car full of soot.
BTW blackwell engineering (parasite valley, az.)installed for $$ 600-700 range. they said buy kit and scavenge for $$ or have tech assemble from scrap for same $$ either way it worked out the same, pay for parts or pay for labor.

And really increases the popularity of diesels among the clowns that probably have connections and can cause us lots of headaches.

Thanks man, but no worries on the install. Already got that covered. Really just looking to purchase the system (if at all)...
so...So far i've been hearing MBRP or Banks...with some of you telling me to stick to a straight-back system... I think yall have just given me more to think about...
Here's my .02 worth: I have the 4" MBRP and noticed a lot of mid-range drone
in the cab that really sucked. Then i added a Jody Tipton chip and it seemed to
quiet down a bit. Drone comes from the thinner wall design on aftermarket systems. To get rid of drone completely i removed the muffler and noticed TONS
of turbine whistle but still had enough drone to annoy me. Next i Tried the Aeroturbine muffler mounted up close to the DP and noticed it killed my turbine whistle about 50% AND my drone 50%. Was happy about the much quieted drone level but missed the turbine whistle. So now the Aeroturbine is back off
and sitting in the garage. Now i'm looking into a flex braided SS pipe mounted
next to the DP to kill the drone.
I believe the Banks system is pretty quiet with good whistle and no drone. He uses thicker SS pipe and a muffler similar in design to the Aeroturbine unit.
The PSD motor is a funny thing when it comes to having drone. Some people
have it bad and some don't because of varying lengths of exhaust,size...etc.
Nut

PSNUT - I'd hate to watch you gift wrap a present....i'd be there for hours!
Thanks for the .02. I haven't noticed drone in the current system but definitely turbine whistle...

thanks mark-
good luck to them. I've tried to do the same to the euro-crap cars- obnoxious at any RPM- and haven't had any luck. cops won't enforce noise ordinance for their damn stereos or chain-saw exhaust. same for semi's without muffs or resonators and no local restrictions on power braking.
my diesel is only loud when I get on it. not all the time.
in the mean-time i'll continue to torment the little fa**ots and their crappy cars.
