Well me and dad finally got that 1970 home. At first we figured it was for parts (dad still figures that way) but I am working on it. I got it turning over nice last night, and today I was working on getting my spark constant. Right now it comes and goes. If you don't remeber it has a 302 auto. Not my favorite motor and trans. but I'll see if it shows life. As dad said when I told him I'm going to work on it. "The girls get prettier at closing time"
It did run yesterday, no rad yet so it was a quick run. I didn't run it off of the fuel pump yet but I ran it off of a old yard sprayer. It sounded quite well, I think she is a good old 302.
However While me and dad were priming on Sunday dad was feeding it gas (when we still had the old carb. on) and it backfired big. My dad caught on fire and the can he was holding melted. My dad is ok, but there is a lot less hair on his arms, yes both of them.
When I get someone to pour gas into a carb I never turn the motor over to prevent a backfire, it can lead problems and most of the time when doing this there is a backfire. Your dad was lucky, it could have been alot worse if he was holding a larger container of gas.
I did blow up a battery that had been charging for awhile by stepping on one of the charger cables and causing it to disconect. It sparked and exploded the battery. Good thing the hood was almost closed as the acid sprayed every where, luckly I didn`t get much on my face. Just enough to let me know it could have been very bad.
Blowing up batteries is scarey stuff, my friend did that one time and burnt himself pretty good. As for the getting burnt by gas down the carb, yeah been there done that lol
I blew up a battery once in my 75 F100 I just heard a bang a bit louder then a backfire. I was in the cab and the hood was shut. Well I'm not sure if I actually blew it up, but the one side of the battery was defiently cracked beyond repair versus it was a very good battery before.
