When my dad came back from vietnam my grandpa sold my dad his 1970 F100 long bed ranger XLT with a 390 n grandpa went n got a new 73 f100. In 76 dad traded the 70 for a new 76 f150 4wd which we still have but he always wished he kept that 70. 5 years ago i bought a 1970 F100 just like his except its a sport custom and blue and he really likes it. The other day I went to my mechanics shop n spotted a red n white 70 f100 ranger XLT I asked the mechanic to get ahold of the current owner and see if hed sell it if i can buy it im goin to give it to dad. and all it needs is a transmission and i have a few layin around a passenger door got 1 of those and a right front fender dont have 1 of those. otherwise its in great shape and would love to give it too dad for his birthday next month. Lets all hope i get it.
Hes a great dad he gave me more than i deserved and when i was a kid iprayed that id be just like him im 24 now. and since mom passed away this is somethin id really love to do for him
Kaching talked to my mechanic today and he said the guy does want to sell it and he wants $400 for it. Not bad, I figure ill goo get it late this week or early next week. Thats a deal for it since it only needs a passenger side door and fender and a transmission. Mechanic also sugested new plugs n spark plug wires. The other day i made the comment to dad when I was getting my F100 runnin after sitting for the winter that "we need to get him 1 of these" he said "no i do just fine with my pickup" do you guys think hed still like it if i got it and gave it to him. Since I know how much he misses his F100?
Heres an update: Went n bought the pickup tuesday and its sitting in my driveway as of now. My neighbor who went to school for body work said hed do the door swap this weekend and it will be headed for the transmission shop monday. Dads birthday is next wednesday. I hope I dont make my sisters too jealous haha. In process of finding a transmission shop I learned that the transmission in my F100 is goin out too, It aint half as bad as the 1 in dads truck tho wow only top gear left in it. that was scary loading it on the trailer also a pain in the a$$. I will try n post pics after dads bday im sure my sister will be out with her camera.
Heres an update. Dads birthday was on may 6. I took the pickup to the tranmission shop on the 4th and the mechanic liked what i was goin to do with it so he said hed have it done the next day. however what was thought to be an FMX turned out to be a cruise-o-matic which were able to get all parts for exept 1 of the drums so it has no top gear. Its still at the trans shop dad hasnt seen it yet and still has no idea about. I kinda had an idea this could possibly happen so im not upset, besides im way to busy planting. The plan now is I have 2 C6s laying in the shed so tomorrow im takin 1 of em down there and he will rebuild it and stick it in there. In other news my F100 is working great and must be a camper special because im using it to haul seed around right now it has 16 bags and a few rock in it and the suspension is hardly sagging in fact its not even level so im impressed I know 3 years ago i pile over 100 bags of bean seed in the back which did sag quite a bit but not as bad *** others ive seen.
Ok so i finally got it done and gave the truck to dad this morning but i havent put insurance on it yet. So being the bright 1s that we are instead of getting in my pickup and goin and putting insurance on dads gift we went the other way took it for a drive and dad ended up backing it into a parked chevy car. So now i gotta goto court and pay a fine lose my liscene and paying to fix a chevy. Im so pissed.
