Can you give advice on pre painting my 65 ?Ive just had a quote to respray the 65 Inside and out in 2pak and remove all rust and plate.$5000.00 but for $3000 extra total sandblast back to bare metal prime and fish oil .
My question is ,is the full bare metal strip necessary ?
well.....personally I would do a total strip, otherwise you might not know exactly how much cancer you might have lurking in there. Its about like that 69 mustang i bought, 1 year later a nice set of bubbles appeared, then the whole car fell apart, and I mean litterally....
had I known that beforehand, I would not have gotten it. but those bubbles just grew out of the car like zits and they grew fast. Car was beautiful, so I thought till that happened. I was driving down the road one day, BAM! the front end about jumped off the ground when the shock tower busted off the car. upon further inspection I found that it was infested. Had to tow it home. I sold it for a loss.
I like the idea of taking it to metal as that is what I'm doing to my 66. It's impossible to tell what you might be painting over unless you really know the truck's history. It's a pain, but you'll KNOW that the metal underneath that shiny new paint is in good shape. You don't want to have somebody's 20 year old bondo "repair" deciding to let go and taking a large chunk of fresh paint with it. Of course, that's only my opinion and I'm no paint and body guru.
