Not to mention that if you are using positive ventilation, ie fans, they had better be explosion proof. About a year ago a coworker nearly lost his hand due to a battery explosion. A local stereo shop had been selling and installing a gel type battery that supposedly needed no vent. Well through the buddy network he ( stereo guy) was contracted to build battery and switch boxes for our 6000gpm firewater pump. Coworker was running pump as routine and reached over to test lights and BOOM! shattered his hand when the 1" thick polycarb box disentegrated and sent shrapnel up and out about 50 feet. Hydrogen gas built up in the box and the switch set it off. Beware!
This reminds me (indirectly and off topic) about a safty supply place that sends me catalogues. I was part owner of a medium-sized datacentre at the time and we had been buying quite a bit of equipment from them.
Now... their catalogue was always a welcome arrival. They sold lots of fun stuff... from mag lights to radiation suits. Anyways... the item that always struck me as just "too fun" was the "explosion proof vacuum".
While I know well what it's for, the wiley kyotee in me imediately imagines vacuuming up a bomb and then hearing a faint boom that makes the vacuum jump.
