My 1992 F350 Crew Cab (5.8 L - 120,000 miles
) broke down the other day. It was losing power over a few minutes worth of driving until I could only go 20 MPH. I pulled over. The truck would idle, but when I hit the gas it would stumble and billow black smoke. I had to get it towed home.
Since it was getting so much fuel, I took a stab at replacing the fuel pressure regulator. That did not fix it. Right now it seems even worse as it will only fire with the throttle wide open, but won't stay running.
The check engine light is not on. The O2 sensor was replaced about 7,000 miles ago.
Not sure where to check next. Since it is such a major failure, I was hoping it would be something common that others have dealt with.
Obviously sounds like running Very Rich.. Needs air or less fuel? When it started to loose power did you notice anything different? Sounds, or anything that ran strange leading up to this incident? Someone else may post as well and help out.

At WOT you are telling the PCM that it is flooded and it will turn off the Fuel Injectors as long as you hold WOT.
I would think that the only thing that will give no codes and do this would be the TPS and ECT sensors. Even if the TPS is somewhat working and giving the WOT it could still be bad.
It could also be the PCM but I would look at the cheaper stuff first.
No Problem Allan, but Subford has some good advice, check those two sensors. TPS and Engine coolant Temp sensor, and Air Charge Temp. sensor as well while at it. These are good common sensors to change/check for feedback info to the computer.
If the engine was unable to burn the gas that means that
alot of fuel was being dumped into the topend. I had an issue where my fuel pressure regulator went bad and dumped 2 1/2 gallons of gas into my oil pan. Check you oil, does it smell like gas? That would help point you towards where to look. Just my 2 cents.
