De-Fuel

I know this may sound like a stupid question, but on most of the chips and modules out there they all talk about a "de-fuel" point. What is that? Is this something that needs to be worried about even without a chip? I have about $700 and am lookin at gettin a chip to add to my truck and have a connection to maybe get a juice platinum with attitude installed for about 6. Want to know more about the de fuel point first. Look bad here and look brilliant when I talk to buddy.

First question. Do you have over 100K on the truck? If not. I would check with local dealership about this because it could possibly void the 100K engine warranty on the 6.0 engine. If you have over 100K then don't worry about this and someone will be along to help.

It is sometimes refered to as "backdown" also. It's a safety thing that keeps you from doing any serious damage to the engine or drivetrain. I have an Edge Juice Platinum on my '06 6.0L. I set mine so that it will "de-fuel" my engine if the EGT gets above 1250 degress or the Transmission starts to slip. This protexts the truck from my right foot. It's a good thing. birredtruckmi does have a valid point about the warranty. It shouldn't void the warranty because they have to 'prove' that the modification caused the problem. It's all going to depend on how much you want to argue with Ford. It would be a tough fight. I'm not worried because I have some inside connection to Ford, but I may still have to fight some. I also don't particularly care because I bought this truck to hot rod anyway. It's so much fun to take an 8000lb truck and smoke a 5.0 Mustang or an import tuner!!

So you pay a few bucks more. You get a PCM from DP-Tuner and run that. Oh, what's that you hear? The engine threw a rod? Whoops. Change back to the old PCM and they will never know

Thanks for the help guys. I was confused on what exactly de fuel was.

I have a 2004 F350 dually, crew, it only has 9000 miles on it. From what I understand any mods that I do (drivetrain/mechanical) could void the warranty. Which that would include everythin that I have been thinkin on - air intake, exhaust, programmer, etc.. Could go the looks route first ( cover, grill guard, etc..), but not as much fun. I pull about 12g campin every weekend/every other weekend and was thinkin the edge would help with towin and mileage, not to mention the "fun factor".

So if you get a core PCM from Jody and keep yours as a standby for problems, you could get away with it. Exhaust they are going to have a hard time proving that it caused the engine to sieze up. Air intake you can keep and change out like the PCM to bring it back to stock
