Hi, I have a 1987 ford full size bronco with a 302, does anybody know if this year came with 2 fuel pumps( low pressure in tank and high pressure on the fram? Any help woud be really helpful,Aloha
I use to have an 88' and it was set up like that. Yours may be differnt because they changed a lot (in the body at least) in 88'. Now I have a 90' and it has only the high pressure in the tank. If its the same, your high presure is located on the frame just under the drivers foot.
Well I dropped the tank today and took out the intank fuel pump. The strainer looked fine and I then hooked up the pump to a 12 volt power source and it worked just fine. It wasnt that hard to take it out.now I will check the high pressure pump on the frame and hopefully thats the problem. any suggestions would be good...Aloha
Are you on O'ahu?
What are the problems you are having with the fuel system? I remember having to check alot of parts on my 1988 F-150 w/ a 302. Does the truck not run at all?
I have to change the sending unit on my 1996 Bronco with a 351.
keep us posted.
khadma Wahiawa.
Howzit khadma, I live on the big island oh hawaii. The bronco started to act like it was running out of gas then it just died. When I turn the key I can hear it cycle and charges the fuel system. When I start it it will run for about a minute the start to sputter like its running out of gas, then it dies. It wont run until I turn the key a few times and starts right up then dies again. Today I pulled out the high pressure pump and tested it on a 12v power source on it ran perfect, so I put it back thinking that it might be the fuel pressure regulator. When I started I up it ran and just kept on going.Maybe it was a bad connection or something. Kind of afraid to take it on the road for fear of it dying again and having to have it towed home again.I ran it for about 10 min. around the yard and have no problems so far....Will keep you guys posted Aloha
Well today I ran it up the road about 1/2 mile from my house and when I got home it started to act up again. It started to sputter again and then dies out and I and back to square one again
Check the FPR (fuel pressure regulator) for fuel inside the vacuum diaphram. Its about the only indication that the FPR is bad and its not necessarily 100% accurate. When was the filter last replaced? Has the inertia switch ever been tripped?
Hello greystreak92, The filter was changed about 6 months ago and the inertia has never tripped before. How do I check if there is fuel in the diaphram?do I have to disconect in from the fuel line?Aloha
Are you sure that the low press. pump is okay? did you get a new one?
I know that was the main reason for my '88 to not run. I changed every part but that one at first, and the truck ran after that. I even replaced the reservoir.
The in tank pump is critical to get fuel to the hi press. pump.
Hey khadma, when iiiI took it out and hooked it up to a pwr source it ran and it was quiet so I didnt get a new one.Is the reservoir behind the hi pressure pump on the frame?
