I've installed the 70 series on my 03 Expy. Depending on the size of your motor, (I have the smaller eng) but in my opinion the sound was very good. My wife didn't complain about the soundtoo loud in the cabin, you can actually carry a normal conversation in any speed. The sound got deeper when I installed the intake tube and larger filter. Another thing that was good about the 70 series was that the dimensions are an exact fit for my expy, all that was done was cut the O.E.M. muffler and put the 70 series flowmaster and weld it.(no pipe extensions needed)
I replaced the factory muffler on my 03 expy with a magnaflow brand muffler. The reason for the replacement on mine was because of the original muffler making a loud popping noise every time the truck was shut off. Of course the dealer said it was normal. I love the magnaflow, the sound is fairly mellow but loud enough to be noticeable. My mileage stayed the same, I get 18 on the highway at 70 mph and about 14.5 in town.
I have an 03 navigator and thinking of a series 70 or magnaflow
which one will fit right in with out changing any pipes and just a little bit of a purr, nothing that is loud at highway speeds?? price install?
mike3000, have you put on the flowmaster yet, about what kind of pricing are they installed? I am thinking of putting on dual exhaust but the other half may not like it to much....
Your Flowmaster Rep will have a book with a detailed noise graph on whatever you are interested in replacing. I put in a "Outlaw 40" which they said would be loud, and by golly they were not lying!
I would also lean towards the Magnaflow mufflers. I went ahead and did our 99 Expy and my 02 Mustang GT at the same time. The Expy is perfect no drone at all. Sounds smooth as silk at highway speeds. I wish I had went more aggressive on my car though.....but it is great at highway speeds too. Oh well....nothing an off road X-pipe won't fix
Gatornav I have the 70 series and I think that might be the one you are looking for. If you go to the flowmaster webb site they have a chart of all there series showing the interior noise level compared to O.E.M muffler and there other series. I paid 125$ for the muffler and that included installation, the flowmaster webb site had a price of 150$ just for the muffler. I got the lower price when I called one of the authorized flowmaster installers. It was a simple cut and weld job, no need for any additional pipe or pipe extensions.
I just had the flowmaster 50 series delta flow installed on our 98 5.4 expy and absolutely LOVE it, throaty outside and just a slight droan in the cab, I was waiting on my wife to get out of work and was reving it up getting impatient and she said everyone told her it was time to go home
Mike3000 if you decide to, you can always go to a reputable muffler shop, and they will test fit your muffler and any other comparable one and let you listen to it. Just go down and let them know your wants and concerns, let them make a suggestion or two. Test fit and listen to the muffler inside the truck and out. And I immediatly noticed an increase in low end torque off the line in both my 05' Wrangler, and my '76 F150.

In SC the local shops will let you test them out also, for $70 each (this is the cheapest) they will put them on and take them off all day long.
This may get expensive if you do not find the one you like quickly.
