I have a 285/75 (on the stock wheel) under mine and it fits fine - I'm pretty sure I read that you can fit a 305/70.... As long as your exhaust isn't too close to it.... I think I remember my exhaust being pretty close to the spare - (way back when it was routed that way)
285 75 16 will fit with monster exhaust with an half an inch to spare. I you leave your stock exhaust on you can go to a 295 and maybe a 305. However, I would not go any bigger then the 285 because your hoist will give out.

Hmmm....I just put 295's on my PSD and was going to purchase the same size spare, but I don't really want to haul it around in the bed of my truck! Would it be possible to beef up the hoist somehow? Maybe replace the steel cable with a thicker one?
I suppose you can swap it out. It is a relatively dinky hoist. If you do not swap it out do like I did. I cabled/locked it to the frame and hitch rails.

Not a bad idea, given the amount of money these tires cost
I've had a spare 295 BFG All-Terrain under my truck using a stock alum wheel for well over a hundred thousand miles without incident. The key is to make sure the tire snugs up nice and even and seats right. They can get a little off center and go snug, only to loosen up as it seats right.
