I usually leave mine running when I run into a store real quick, but I shut off during fueling.

They called the cops on my buddy and I one time. He got a $200 fine.

Depending on what state (And county too) you're from, it's illegal to refuel while the engine is running (Regardless if your gas or diesel, or even electric if you're recharging). Only exception is vehicle GVRW, it's ok for some vehicles that are over a certain GVRW to be running during refueling (Varies by law doctrine within states) It's also illegal to "top off" the tank but we all know no one does that

Actually, according to Mythbusters, this myth is not plausible. They proved there is nothing about cell phones that can start a fire.

I know you have pictures of your pickup in your gallery....................is there an "adults only" section in there somewhere?

I did smell some fuel, but thought is was spilled diesel additive in the back. When I finally figured it out, I opened the hood and the engine and undercarriage were dripping (and steaming) with fuel. I have to say, I was pretty nervous at that point. I shut it down, fixed the problem, wiped down as much of the fuel as possible and went on my way. I would say it's pretty hard to ignite diesel, although I wouldn't want to try it again!

hink is right. when the fuel bowl o-ring went out in my truck, i was driving daily in 100+ degree weather and it never ignited. i was worried though with that much diesel sitting in the valley.

I would think leaving your truck running would keep your beer cooler might be wrong.

Yes but only the open ones, in the cupholders... you can point the panel vents right at them.

If anyone else has TRIED, hard, to ignite diesel fuel .... you'll see that there's not much to worry about as far as explosions go.

I keep my truck runing for a couple reasons. The first is Turbo cool down, the second is less wear and tear on starters and glow plugs. It takes a lot of energy to restart these trucks. It also takes more fuel to start these engines then it dose to just let it idle for maybe 5 minutes. Plus I can just get in my truck and go since i never have to go into the store to pay. I use my debit card at the pump. No one has given me a hard time yet and Ive done this at countless Nevada and California gas stations

I leave it run for many of the reasons listed above it's just easier on the truck. One thing I do hate having to do is shut it down at the drive-thru so they can hear me.

I'll give one reason why I now stop my truck when fueling. I recall reading a post by Kwik that bubbles/air will damage your fuel pump and cause a loss in power. As a result I usually stop my truck after a good cool down for the turbo.

I was also thinking the same thing. When i fill up my 5 gal jugs with diesel for a long trip or something, i notice that the fuel is really fomey with tons of bubbles and it must be doing the same thing in the fuel tank. Is this a negitive affect of fueling while the engine is still running? I was also thinking that doing the Hilton Cyclone might be a good mod to help with all the air and bubbles. What do you guys think??

I had some clown yell at me for idling my truck or car. Not sure which but I told her that the vehicle was diesel and if she was paying for the Glow Plug replacement and starter replacement, I'll do it. Till then shut your yap or I'll shove something in it.
