thanks, for your help sorry about the long post,
First, the trim level is much nicer, and it's a truck that has had 6 manufacturing years to 'mature' in design.
A couple of things I would definitely check, though... Make sure the front axle connext/disconnect is working, and make sure the A/C is working. If I remember correctly, A/C problems are common on older Explorers and that stuff is expensive to fix.
The 5.0 equipped Explorers _might_ be full-time 4X4, right? I don't remember...

Good choice- the V8 is one fo Ford's best engines, and the AWD system is just about bulletproof (it's the same Borg-Warner unit that GM used in the Typhoon and Cyclone- ever heard of anyone that has had a problem with it? didn't think so). Besides, the push-button 4WD in the '92 was pretty archaic- for what you're going to use the vehicle for, the '97 was definitely the better choice- enjoy!

And if your into Mods than your ahead of the game with a V-8. The AWD works awesome for mild offroading and for safety. My 97 EB V-8 is totaly reliable and I love it!
