I installed the BTS VB last weekend and the DP Tuner chip this weekend. Obviously there is a huge difference in the power and when it shifts, so what is a safe level of RPM's? You can see my sig for mods, but basically nothing internally so 2500, 2800, 3000????
i try to keep my truck under 3000 rpm, but that is because im very paranoid of my rods and the lack of money to throw down on a rebuild. i have let it get to 3300 or so in stock form. i like lugging it around more at 1800 rpm or so rather than revving it "to the moon". i like to use the torque moreso than the horsepower factor.
Yea I'm with Kris - I don't think PMR's like high Rpm's.... I've heard/read more than one story about guys that had over-revved the truck, not long before adding a custom block window - while puttering easy around town no less!!
yes he does. that entitles him to drive it to the limit of the torque converter...
however i am very cautious when i get on mine. but when i do get on mine, mostly it is just 2nd gear low RPM smokeouts. the good samaritan i am, smoked out an intersection today, it was so dense that all traffic stopped and let the smoke clear as i kept going..
Well, I may end up ventilating my block someday. So be it. I'm not buying stuff for my truck to baby it. If it can't take it, I'll replace it with something that can.
Ford shows the redline at 3500, I have heard/read that it can actually go to 4500, but I have absolutely no data to back that up. I have on rare occasions, like 3 time that I can remember taking it over 3000 rpm. Towing trailer at 65 w/od off it sits right at 2750 and I have had no problems at all.
Rev it as high as you want, you're not going to hurt anything. Jody's chip starts to cut some fuel at 3400 RPM, then cuts it all by 3800 RPM. Although you won't hurt anything, it's not making any power up there anymore with your current setup. The stock HPOP runs out of pressure and can't keep up with injector demand.

My Dad ran his old 89 F-250 7.3L IDI up just a hair under 4500 rpm's trying to get out of mud. At that time he had over 250K miles already on the engine. No damage at all to it. That truck was a hoss.
I don't have a DP chip yet, but with my superchips chip I see 3K daily.
There is just something about seeing a big a$$ truck like that take off that fast. Plus who doesn't like to see alittle black smoke?

those engines are of a completely different design. they have distributor pumps, which are well suited for very HIGH RPM's. their rotary design in the fuel pump and the vaned pump inside will raise pressure as RPM's increase, and they will rev very high, like you said 4500+.you wont see many HEUI's doing that. unless it's a very expensive oil feed system....
Sweet! I haven't even put it in the 120 Race setting yet, the 80 Econo is enough to beat the little Rice rockets around me(and the wife hasn't figured out why it seems to pickup a little bit better now) I may just have to smoke them out though next time!
