pinging in my 2000 ranger

i been noticing some pinging when throttle down.more noticeable climbing hills, i been using 87 octane and have changed oil and plug wires, do you think maf needs cleaned. i heard that the 3.0 engines have this problem. any suggestions

With a pinging noise, chances are you need to run higher octane. I would suggest buying low octane fuel and buying an octane booster. Its a little cheaper this way.
