Widest rear tire/wheel?

I have a '66 F-100 Custom Cab LWB style-side bed 2wd that I'm lowering via djm dream beams & 4" rear shckle/hangers...

What is the widest 15" wheel/tires I can run on it w/o relocating the springs, etc.? B.S., etc.

Thanks
Doc

Not sure, but I can reccomend the Goodyear Workhorse, great tire. Have a set on my 66 F100, they last a long time, and have very good traction.

A good perfomance 275/60/15 would be a good size, not many options for 15" wheels and keeping the Diameter right on. Should be able to install 295/50/15 but will need to install different gear for the speedometer.

When using wide tires you need to do basicallly the math yourself. then there is no one to blame when a tire is cut.

Place the truck on jack stands

use a plumb bob on each side to give you the axle center line and snap a line between the two.

Use the same bob and give the location of the frame outer edge and snap those two lines crossing the center line...This will give you the "Squareing dimensions"

Use the bob to locate the outermost edge of the wheel house and leaf springs and the nearest interference of the bed.

Using these basic dimensions you can determine the correct back space with the drums in place and just where the interferences are. At least one inch of clearance is required for radial wall flex.

To tuck a tire you need to follow this rule as once the suspension is dropped. it is contingent on the dimensions based on the modifications made. Your mods may not necessarily coenside with the mods i made and there fore need to be checked.

No blame to anyone of any damage done from components I installed......

I should have stated what width tires/wheels have been used w/ a similar set-up (possibly w/ pics) as the truck is in the planning stages @ this point.

I'll get the plumb-bob & knitting kit out when I just want to stuff the rear like a turkey w/ tire.

Thanks!

I'm running 235/75/15s on my slick right now, with 8 inch wide rims. I have 2 inches between the fender and the side wall each side, and a little more than an inch between the spring and the side wall on the back side. I wouldn't get any closer to the spring because of sidewall deflection, and I run no panhard bar, so I wouldn't want to get more than another half inch closer to the fenders.

Lower profile tires have less sidewall deflection, so you could run wider.

I run 225/70/16" on my 65 F100 all the way around and have no clearance problems what so ever front or back. Can even change the rear tires with the axel setting on a jack stand.
