I have a Flareside and could only get a 15x10 in there. 6.5" backspacing.
I guess styleside. It's a normal bed. The bed is getting tubbed to make doom for the 5" axle flip kit with 2" lowered shackles. And notched for a fuel cell. I still haven't spent much time with the donar chassis. I am also rolling the fenders so I will protect the tires also
Are you going to find a narrower axle? If not, you're pretty limited to the 6.5" backspacing. That seems to be the limit manufacturers will go. I was able to go with a N50-15 tire on the rear with just a little clearance yet. - 12" tread width. That fills things out pretty well.

thanks for the info. now to look for a rear wheel I like

I need to figure out the width of the rear end from drum to drum. I'm going with a narrowed rear. I want to stuff the widest I can. I'm even converting to 4 link and getting rid of the leafs for more clearance.

Could move the leaves inboard for more room but with a 4 link you have more adjustment than with Supper Stock leaf springs.
Easy to measure D/D, pull wheels, 2 strings with nuts on the ends and hang on the face of the drums like plumb bobs and measure.
edit: why not back half the rear part of the frame and go something like Pro-street?

I searched a site and it said drum to drum is 65.25. The rear I'm looking at is 61.25. One option was to put the leafs inside the frame. I would get great clearance that way also
You have not said what you want to do with the truck.
Street truck with large rear tires to drive around or will it be for racing and some street?
If racing (drag?) what class do you want to run in and what are the rules for that class?
I think Choptop has raced his truck(s) might want to see what he has done for the suspension.
It also depends on how much you want to spend on doing this and how much adjustability in it you want.

I want to pro touring style. Figure 18 inch wheels like a 325 tire or wider in rear. But I might also go street / strip and go 15 inch wide tire. Regardless I'm going really wide. Either 15 or 18 inch rims
As much as I wanted to have huge meats out back on my drag car my wallet said NO! So new stock leafs & Caltrac bars and 28x10x15 M/T slicks is what I run and the car hooks pretty good for the junk yard motor the car has.
