I'm considering a backwards conversion from a 90 EFI 460 to a duraspark/4bbl. setup for my 74.
has anyone done anything similar, and is there an issue with compression or the Cam?
I haven't decided which way to go yet, my other option is the original 390 that appears to be in excellent shape, it runs smooth and strong and doesnt' use oil, but needs a C-6 overhaul. The 460 has a rebuilt C-6 and would only need the distributor, module, intake, electric pump, and I already have a few good carbs.
The changing heads, intake and adding a carb are the only real problems. or youm could always fab and adapter to fit on the EFI manifold.
Interesting theory, just plop the carb on the efi manifold. Has anyone tryed this? I am capable and have the machines to do it, wondering how she would run? May just be cheaper to stick with the 390, and no guesswork.
I know of no one who has done it. But all you need is a ring to give you a plenum and a plate on top with the carb hloes and some studs installed. Fab the throttle cable to the carb linkage. But then you don't have to fab anything to use a rebuilt 390 and it weighs a bunch less than the 460.
