I have a F250 4x4 with a 351M that has 64,000 original miles. The engine is bone stock & is running great. I just adjust the carb every so often for the idle.
I'm looking to have the engine pulled, some minor performance done; such as 4 bbl, headers, etc.. and the engine bay repainted. The truck has just been repainted back to factory specs. Truck is used to hunt/fish only. Non DD.
I'd like the engine bay to be back to par as well.
1. Is it worth pulling an engine with so few miles to do some minor mods, check for any unseen problems & paint the bay??? I'm not looking to max out HP, just a little bit extra.
2. Should I have someone try to paint the bay around the engine & not pull it??? My guess is a big NO.
3) If I have the engine pulled, how much should I expect to pay for the engine being pulled(ball park) ?? Am I looking at $$$$.
none of the performance mods you listed require removal of the engine. it may be easier to do the painting with the engine removed, however. depends upon how nice ya want it to look. if ya take the time to pull the engine ya should check it over real good. this may lead to lots of additional time and $$$. you should be able to rent an engine puller for a reasonable price if you have the space and tools to do the job.
I guess what I'm looking to do is the performance mods & did not know if it was worth the $$$ to pull the engine to make the engine & bay shine back to factory glory. I'm thinking a great tuned, shiny engine looks a little bit out of step with a deteriorating engine bay.
Guess I'm going a little overboard... I'll just do the mods and worry about the "look" later.
there ya go...I'd never pull a motor unless I had to and once it's out it gets everything- bearings and the mods that make the most sence- like pistons or heads and...roller cam!!! So i have to either save up $$ or buy a block and do it as i can before pulling.
