Towing capacity

I cant seem to find what the towing capacity of my 66 F100 with a 300 six and T-18 would be. Does anyone know what the factory designation was for these trucks? I know what I HAVE carried in the back (way too much) but I am toying with the idea of pullin a 4000lb travel trailer.

I don't know the towing capacity, but 4000 pounds seems to be well within the limits of the 300 and a t18. The only limiting factor would be the ability to stop on drum brakes. If not for that, I'd say 8,000 pounds was an easy pull for that motor and trans combo.

On the highway I think it will do fine. I am not a speed demon (at least not in public and in front of the family) so going 65-70 is not what I am after. I dont like going 35 miles an hour up a hill however and may change the current 3:25 back to the 3:50 it originally had. I will be checking the brakes and when $ allows getting disc brakes.

FWIW,
I pulled a Bob Cat on a 1750# 2 axle 10K lb rated flatbed with a 4.9L 300 with EFI & a late Mazda Built 5spd OD. Weight of that load was right at 12,500# MOL. I also pulled a 1958 IH 300 Utility Grove tractor with it, set up grossed better than 14,500#. So there's not much problem pulling it. Of course we don't have any mountains here in FL.
I also Tug some Older jet fighters around anAirport here with the same truck. Pulls them fine too. They weigh over 10Tons, F-14 Tomcat is 16tons w/out engines etc.

Like Beater says pulling the loads is not a problem, But stopping is always a thrill & a challenge and I had front PDBs & 11" X 3" HD rear drum brakes, it's my 88 F-150.

Thanks FBP it helps put it in perspective. We do have some hills here in Oregon so it is a consideration. The real issue is that I currently have an 84 Chevy Surburban 4x4 that I use to pull the trailer. I have the 66 F100 2x4 that is my daily driver. I recently bought a 65 F1004x4 with a 390 but no transmission. I am toying with the idea of selling the chebby for the money to finish the 4x4. From the time I sell the chebby and before the 4x4 is finished I have to have something to pull the trailer with this summer. Family time and happy wife are important issues. If the 66 F100 can stand in the gap that would be great. If not then I will have less $ to spend on the 4x4 and a longer build time. The 4x4 has not been running since I bought it so I am trusting (hoping and praying) that it works. If not more $. Such problems to have............

You need to make sure there are brakes that work on the trailer, that will greatly help the stopping. That would be my biggest concern.

The trailer is new and has a good braking system. If I take this route I will go completely through the current brake system and make sure everything is OK. After the 4x4 is up and running the 2x4 will get power steering and disc brakes. At that point I will have finished both rigs. Guess it will be time to buy another F100. Only problem then will be where to live. My better half has been saying something about no more trucks and me having to make some sort of decision. HMMMMMMMMMMMM
