Super Duty Security Systems?

Guys – Do any of you have any recommendations for a transponder type security system that would go on the key ring for a Super Duty, similar to the ones that are in most keys of new vehicles? Our brothers with Excursions have that luxury. I not sure why they didn't at least make it an option on the truck. I know that you can hook up hidden switches to disable the ignition, but that would require me to remember to turn it on and off!

Passive Proximity Immobilizer
SLI 761PP-H2B

I've installed a few of these (760 model) on superduties and they work great.

You have a transponder that hangs off your key chain and when you get close to the receiving loop in the steering column it lets you start your truck.

I think it's a 3 point immobilizer.(ignition, starter, and you can add an external relay for anything else)

the description of both ford systems says "dealer install recommended". any idea of how extensive the work is? i would imagine if it is a ford option, some of the wiring is already in the truck?

thanks for posting the info!

We have our local radio company do the install, takes about 3 hours for an experienced installer.

I think you may be guessing wrong about Ford having any of the system pre wired. I did a Ford remote start install on my 2000 F-150 and it was a huge pain. The system Ford sold me was pretty much the same as any aftermarket system and required cutting a wire and splicing for each circuit involved. Hopefully it has changed but I doubt it, best to have a pro do it for you unless you are an excellent electician and you have the time to do it right.

bummer. i am used to the norm for german cars. the wiring for most factory options is already in the base harness. options like alarms are just "find the plugs and play".

since there was just a news story last week about F-250's being the third most stolen vehicle in the country, i was hoping for an easy alarm solution.

Ed,

Will this system work with the diesel? I've had a problem finding a remote starter that will. Thanks, Todd

The box says it works up to a 1/2 mile,i dont know i have never tried it.

I double cheked the catalog and the Ford accessory web site and there is nothing stating that it will not work on diesels. So I would say at this time, yes this kit will work.

I have a Viper alarm - has remote start - which allows for turbo cool down, and I leave my truck running if i have any of my dogs with me so I can activate it and take the keys with me. I LOVE it .. great system.

Need to convince my wife to get the keyless entry, alarm, and remote start for me as a father's day gift or at very least an anniversay gift. Thanks to all for the info.

TNT where did you get your Viper alarm installed? I think I might add something like that to mine but I am concerned with the quality of the install.
