new member ..need help already??

Hello everyone . I just found the site while searching for answer to my problem. I hate to start off with questions, but I really could use some help..

I have 2003 7.3 that has been acting strangely last 60 days. It kind of misses or for lack of better words..like someone cuts of ign. for split second & scares the hell out of you..I finally had the check engine light come on today & I checked the code & it is P0344. I beleive that is camshaft sensor isn't it? Should I just go ahead & replace it?

I found the thread on here on how to install new one..sounds simple enough, but I do have a question on install? You don't have to worry about positioning the new sensor in any way like I used to have to do with my old Mustangs? Just bolt in and done?

Thanks for any & all help & again glad to find your guys & gals

Jeff

From the service manual:

P0344 - CMP - Camshaft position sensor ckt. intermittent
Causes: Harness routing, charging ckt., sensor, int. ckt., improper gap

Part numbers and sources are indicated in the following link, which will also assist you in the replacement process:

http://www.forgotton.net/mods/cpsframe.html

If you can wait a couple of days for delivery, the cheapest source for a new, factory-wrapped, CPS will be from e-bay. Somewhere around $50-$60 if you exercise Buy-It-Now.

Welcome to Ford Truck Enthusiasts rockhi and ILBCNUL8R.

rockhi. You will not need shims, special placement or anything else. Pull the old one out and put the new back in the same place.

You may want to save the old one. Keep it (and the tools needed to replace it) in the truck for an emergency. Sounds like it'll work to get you home.

I think the black is the Ford replacement and the blue is the International replacement. Do a search for "blue cps" and see the different opinions on both.

Great..
Thanks....

I assume the Blue IH unit is better....
I wonder why both Ford and IH make one and Ford does not just source them from IH??

my undesstanding is that IH sources them from ford since some of them come in ford packaging.

Black is original replacement. Blue is for the International DT466 I think.
Blue sees better MPG's and higher EGT's during towing I beleive also.

The above poster is right the blue is for a different engine and some claim when used in our engine that they gain 5 mpg, 25 psi of boost, 75 ftlbs of torque, and shaves 1.2 sec off the 1/4 mile.
