I have been hunting around on Google for this information, but so far am finding very little that's any actual help.
Next week I get to order new speakers for my truck, and at the moment have settled on 4 coaxials (Infinity Kappa's) to go in both front and rear. However, I know that components will give me a better sound than coaxials (in my previous vehicle I had Alpine components and some Pioneer coaxials in the rear), so have been debating spending 3/4 of my budget on front components, and then 1/4 on some coaxials for rear fill.
The problem is I don't want to have the tweeter from the component visible anywhere, I really want to retain the stock look (and don't want any holes drilled/cut in my dash/doors) so can anyone tell me if there is space in the stock speaker locations in a 2000 F-150 to fit a 5x7 component (woofer, tweeter and crossover). The grille looks almost triangle shaped, as if there is enough space in there, maybe some came from the factory with a seperate tweeter? (my previous vehicle already had locations on the dash for tweeters).
Hope someone can help and let me know if the component will fit in the standard location, pics if possible. Thanks.
I think after some more time browsing Google I have answered my own question. It looks like if I did manage to install the tweeters in the factory location that I would lose a lot of options with sound stage/image of them, and therefore drastically reduce any advantage of components over the coaxials.
I would not mind flush mounting the tweeters elsewhere, but my interior is a kind of tan color, and I don't want to have black tweeters sticking out like a sore thumb. Think I will just go for coaxials all round, am almost 100% set on the Infinity Kappa 682.7cf.
If anyone does have any opinion on the tweeter going in the door panel though I would still like to hear it. Now I am off to research what amp will be best to run the Kappa's.
I have a 2002 F-350 and I have Alpine 5x7 components in my super crew
I mounted the tweeters in the door panels, just above the drivers, stock location and I am pretty happy with the imaging
I have Alpine 5x7 coaxials in the rear doors and a JL SW10 sub/enclosure, right behind the driver's seat
My Alpine amps are mounted to thin boards zip tied to the interior of the back seat cushion
keep in touch

Thanks Bob, for now I have decided to get some Infinity Kappa coaxials to go in the front and an amp to run them. I decided I should get an amp and 1 pair of speakers now, and then uprade the rear speakers (probably move the Kappa coax's to the rear and get new front speakers) at a later date.
Which Alpines do you have? and how do they sound? I had been looking at Alpine's along with a bunch of other brands as they are a similar price to the Infinity.
Also, do you have any pictures of the amplifer? I started trying to figure out last night where to mount mine when it arrives, I had hoped to somehow fit it in the center console, but don't think there is enough room, and it will also be difficult to mount it and connect cables easily.
I will take some pics for you, if you like
would you IM me, and I will give you my email address
I will have to try and remember the model #;s
Infinity makes great speakers!

have you thought about Q-forms?
they make kick panels that hold a set of components, they sit down in the kick panel area by your foot, aimed up at you
Well I put the Infinity coaxials in over the weekend, perfect fit. The only problem is I think the amplifier I bought is defective, which really sucks as I now have to deal with sending it back and waiting for a replacement (which probably won't come before July 5th) The whole right channel on the amplifier does not appear to be working, narrowed it down after removing all the speakers on the right, changing cables, crossovers, etc etc........... not happy about it.
