I believe what tim is pointing out is you can buy a stroker crank and pistons and not have to bother with the 6 cyl rods and weird pistons and machining the crank offset and undersize . Fairly pricey but impressive none the less.

lol, its to bad i didn't read up on this thread a couple weeks ago, as right now my 400 that i'll be using in my mud bogging truck is at the machine shop and the machinest has already ordered pistons (he was able to get some pistons for me, zero deck flat tops, no dish and i'm using the 4v quench heads) for me and it ended up being about 50bucks a piece shipped (remember though thats in canadian so about 40bucks apiece american), then again we're trying to get this motor together within the next 2 weeks. But yeah I think you have picked the best option.
I wonder if he got some cleveland pistons to bush? I'm not aware of any other pistons other than Badger- which can be ad for as low as 120.00 on ebay or tim's kb- special order.

I would sure like to know what piston you are getting. Something does not make sense. I have never heard of any other "zero" deck height piston, unless it is a special, and that would be no where near $320 USD. But I could be wrong.
"Was there something else you were looking for in a piston combination?"
Yeah, what I meant when I said a new budget dished piston was for the budget stroker combo. Something with about a 1.405-1.415CH with a 12-18cc dish & a .912 or .975 pin.
I asked KB once if they would make one but they said minimum custom order was 300 sets.
The zero deck FTs have compression in the 10.5:1 range with open chambers and ACL doesn't recommend cutting any more than 1 mil out of their pistons to lower compression.
The early 240 rods were the best with these 2 pistons since they use the smaller .912 pin.
The 240 rods have proven plenty tough in 520/460 stroker combos http://www.bacomatic.org/~dw/520/520.htm
It may not be worth the time and effort but I think you could probably put together a 427/400 budget stroker kit that sells for under $1000 depending on the availability of usable 400 crank cores.
We are not bushing the rods i do know thatwe told him we didn't want to do that if possible and to call us if he couldn't find anything, but we called him and he had a set coming in (they were supposed to be in on friday), but i'm taking the crank and rods (ones we orginally took up were 351M pieces) up on tuesday and i'll take a look to see for sure what brand they are (our machinest is a guy i'd trust to do heart surgey as he knows his stuff, and if he does screw up be chance he make it right at no cost to us), but its was my dad who talked to him and they're supposed to a nwe type of piston, now i don't know if he meant hyper's, but it seems as those have been around awhile though. Regaurdless i'll post up of what they are and who makes em.
Hey Tim, I'm wondering if the piston didn't come from you by chance, the guy that's doing the machine work for us is named Trevor (can't remember his last name), but the business is Trev's Automotive out of Lethbridge Alberta Canada. (btw tim you remember talking to a Ron Ford a few weeks back asking about 400 parts? cause if you do that was my dad calling-i let him do the talking cause me trying to explain stuff to him that hes really hasn't dealt with before is dang near impossible).
I sold them for $199 a set. Then you had to machine for the Aussie dish. That was about a 2 hour charge, $100+ So our new KB are $295 a set drop in. And the new hypers coming are $175 a set for the 76cc heads.
I was just wondering if that is what mustang had gotten ahold of somehow. I didn't explain myself as usual.
So if I want to use kb for my next 400- Will I need to have more taken off the 9.5:1 piston to run my XE256 cam and 87pump- as is i see DCR close to 8.5 ?
humm i guess my post didn't post up last night, oh well, but anyway yeah it wouldn't surprise me if the guy got ahold of those kb's as he has connections and can get some pretty good/rare parts/not even out of the factory parts pretty quickly. But yeah we didn't get the chance to head up to the machinist today do to some farm business (harvest is getting near), but i'll post up and let you guys know as soon as i find out.
Hey Roger, i'm going to be heading down to Polson MT (as long as the guys are still taking my truck down on the semi anyway), this weekend for a mud bog on sunday, now i don't know how close you are to polson (south end of flathead lake), but if your interested in meeting up or something let me know.
might work- I have to head up to Noxon area to look at some land I think...whats the info on the boggs...ie where around Polson...I used to drive through there every week...road construction south of there is very bad. Find out abou the pistons as i may have another option.
As much as possible using all the various calculators and info on here should work out to around 11-11.5:1 cr (the 70-71 4v clevelands were in the 10.7-11:1 range and the longer stroke with the same pictons and head combo should result in a slightly higher cr than the cleveland), as remember this motor is going in my mud boggin comp. truck and compression is a better power booster then a bigger cam as it ain't as noticeable
Yeah as far as the bog is concerned all i know is that its on sunday and if i had to guess probably starts at noon, probably on the same grounds as the car show as they having it the day after so not to inter with the car show.
