I have to agree about NOT selling my truck. I love diesels, but the new ones are so complex and so troublesome, I have no interest in them.
While power is quite low for older IDI diesels, the engines are so simple, durable, and easy to maintain, I'm tempted to pick up an old 300SD Mercedes. Maybe then my wife would leave my PSD alone...

Or you could just get her a diesel VW Jetta, my neighbor's wife likes his truck, hates driving it, but wanted a diesel. So he got her a diesel Jetta. Problem solved.
Sorry to here about these problems, but on the other hand my brotheren-Law has been a GM technition for over 25 years [and don't like deisels] and says they do very little work on the D-max and when they do it is mostly fuel delivery problems,[sounds like Ford to me] he said on the early they had a few with cracked heads but have that resolved now. I have a 2005 jetta deisel and on this trip to the beach it got 54.5 mpg. That is the best it has got so far,28000 miles on the car.
you can get a VW beetle with a diesel in it and they get like 60 miles to the gallon i just wish i could fit all my tools in one then i could use it for work haha
Alright...I know I'm new to this particular post...BUT...I've got to chime in. If you have a 2006, THERE AIN'T ANY DEALERSHIP IN THE U.S. that will seriously try to NOT honor a warranty on a total engine failure....especially on a Duramax, or any other diesel for that matter.......What are they saying......You purposefully put some bad fuel into your truck?.......I guarantee that when you push them on this and threaten legal action, they'll fall all over themselves either a) getting you a new engine, or b) getting you a new truck............That #)@P^()%_#&() engine is under warranty for 100K, ain't it?....It's made to take a certain amount of abuse anyway. If they don't immediately fold...then get a lawyer and when you win your case, get a new truck and some extra cash on top of it....but it won't go that far......
So I'm a little late here to the thread, but what was the outcome on the dmax? You should be able to get performance built dmax at that price. I agree with the legal action.
I've not gotten an update on this poor suckers dilemma, but I will post something as soon as I do. I don't really have much sympathy for anyone that buys a GM product and probably never will.
I have owned several GM products and have been nothing but pleased with it. I'd have bought a Suburban if they had it in a diesel but they didn't have a diesel SUV which Ford has or had. Not saying I regret my purchase but that I had a good time owning my 84 Camaro, 91 Firebird, 02 Silverado, 01 GMC Yukon XL and my 91 Corvette.
