Black Smoke
I have a 04 F-250 6L PS. would like know if any one else had this problem with your truck..every now an again my truck at idle or going down the road it the rpm's jump up an blow black smoke out the exh pipe it will do this for a time then stops... had it to dealer an they say they can`t find any thing wrong... thanks for the help Craig

Hey guys,
As you know, The Diesel Garage is a somewhat competitive site to FTE. A good bunch of knowledgeable folks that lean heavily on the super modified side of diesel technology.
With that said, and with respect to FTE ownership, I would appreciate it very much if, when recommending competitive sites, you would do so via private messaging.
I am going to keep the thread in-service, for now, in hopes that you get responses / answers to your question here. Besides that, I look at most other sites as being complimentary to FTE as opposed to competitive.

Now to your problem. Injector leaks, to much oil, ICP Sensor problems, EGR issues, etc...
2003/04 Lack of Power, Runs Rough, Check Engine Light on With EGR Codes:
Some trucks may exhibit exhibit the above symptoms, as well as have excessive white or black smoke, and may have the following EGR valve code(s): P0401, P0402, P0403, P0404, P0405, P0406. Diagnostics for the EGR valve have been updated, as has the EGR valve--P/N 4C3Z-9F452-A. Broadcast Message 3614, SSM 18362.
Having an '04, it will be important to know your engine build date and mileage. Are you the original owner?
As you can see many things can cause the symptoms you speak of. More history will be critical no matter where you seek your answers.

Again I'm sorry I love my Fords so I try and get as much info as I can. I'm new to all this diesel stuff so I goto as many sites as I can to get info and this site and the other(not mentioning any names)....LOL are diffinitley are the best IMO.

kw. where is there a build date on the engine? or is it the date in the door jam?? my truck dont have any engine codes in it i just checked it..could it be in the wiring on the engine?? it had the wiring recall done... thanks craig

If no... they need to... no way to say "no problems" with out it.
It could be related to the TSB KW posted above... but it also could be an EGR valve or turbo vane(s) sticking???
Try a different dealer and get their opinion if your still under warrenty... it costs you nothing.

My Build Date On Eng 2004.. And Last Time I Pulled Codes There Was None...truck Acked Up An I Tried Pulling Code An Got P0404 P0603 P1335...cant Find P1335 An I Checked It Agin...thanks Craig
