key fob issue

I have an 2002 Escape XLT. I have a spare key and fob that I cannot get the fob programed. I have done what the dealer stated to do and still cannot gwt it to work. Any ideas? I have a new battery in the fob.

What did the dealer tell you? It takes TWO working items to program the third. If you only have one working then you'll have to let the dealer charge you $100+ to program.

I'm pretty sure that you don't need two key fobs to program another one. You do need them all readily available when reprogramming, however. Bananaboat is probably thinking about the programming of an additional PATS key. Then two already-working keys are required, or it's off to the dealer for big-bucks reprogramming of the PATS.
