I bought a 2005 Ford Escape XLT V6 in April. I like the truck, however, I don't like all the creaking noises I get when I drive it. Most notably when I hit small bumps and ruts in the road. If you've ever heard styrofoam egg cartons when they are squished together a little. Thats what it sounds like. The sound creaks from everywhere. Is there a simple fix? Or is this a major dealership hassle in the working? I thought perhaps someone else may have had this situation. That way when I go to the Ford Dealer I am armed with some useful information. Thanks for your help...Aloha's...Basmati.

I have noticed some minor creaking in all of my Escapes (3 so far). Nothing to the point of being annoying though. I never really thought to look where it is coming from. Turn up the radio or drive with the window open - the wind noise in these things is worse than any squeeking it makes.
The majority of the "egg carton" noise was created in the 2005 . Everyone complained about the road/wind noise on the 01-04 Escape. I owned an 02 and currently have an 05 Escape. Ford's fix - add black foam in the front door seals and make all the door seals tighter. My fix - lightly rub some silicone spray on the seals. Make sure you get those two blocks on the front doors, they're close to where the windown/fender meet.

I know exactly what you mean. Annoying like hell. Then we had it rust proofed. Rust Check. And guess what? The creaks are gone. How long will it last? It's been a couple months now.
My creaks are in a 2001 but I think its the vertical front sway bar struts. They are avalable from Moog at approx. $15 per side & its the worn nylon sockets that creak like crazy!
I have a 2001 also and have been noticing creaks as well. So what are you saying is the fix? $15 parts?

Only way to find out is to crawl under & have a look. I did & mine were so worn that one was almost out of its socket. They are an easy out & the nylon socket most likely will be ovalled out. Might want to check the other sway bar bushings as well as if they wear the force is on the ones we've been talking about.

I have noticed creaking in my 2005 as well. Specifically during higher speed turns and acceleration. It sounds like it is coming from the rear right side wheel, possibley the door. About 1500 miles on it so far, so I don't think it is from any sort of wear on the car.
Just had a new clutch put in an 01 with 115K miles. Noticed the creaking after clutch install [only on acceleration]. Went back to dealer and me and the mechanic finally traced it to the motor mounts. Mechanic took them loose, and put anti-seize between all the surfaces. Squeak gone!
I had some creaks on my 2003 which I just got. The noise was coming from the rear of the vehicle. I got rid of it by tightening down the spare tire and repositioning that tool bag that sits on top of the spare. I think the spare was moving around a little when driving over rough roads. I made sure it was nice and tight and then I tighten up the cover that goes over the spare tire. Seemed to work for me, creaks are all gone, at least for now.
I just investigated a front end creak in our '01, hoping to find a possible lead to the solution here...close but no cigar. I first thought it was the sway bar struts, which I haven't totally ruled out, but it seems to be coming from the top of the front shock mounting area. I will attempt to spray silicone lube up from the bottom first, if that doesn't quiet things down, then I'll operate from the top. QUESTION... Is there anything I should be leary of when removing the upper part of the boot, such as ruining a seal or something?
You have to remember that the Escape is classified as a truck. Truck suspension components are somewhat different than a passenger car, therefore chassis noise may be more noticable and evident in this type of vehicle. You may have noises as you drive it out of the showroom. You want no squeaks, get a Taurus or 500.
