The family will be taking a 1000 mile trip and I thought it would be nice to pipe the video up to the passenger in the front seat.
I have a 2005 Expedition with Nav and rear DVD.
I thought I'd see what it would take. Well the screen would be about $200 or if I get the visor model from Vizualogic it would be $600. Add in close to $100 for the video amp/spliter then add in labor and is just not worth it.
besides, the installer would have to rip out the headliner and dvd unit to get to the player. Then he'd have to unsolder to get to the signal to send it to the splitter.
Has anybody added a screen up front? How did you do it?
Thanks.
Check your state laws, and insurance. It's illegal in many places to have a video screen in the front seat and visible to the driver. The police claim it can be a distraction and cause an accident.
Get yourself a cheap, used laptop computer with a DVD drive, and a 12V to 110V converter for the power brick, plus this way the front seat pass doesn't have to watch what the rear pass are watching.
