The brake pedal on my 87 BII is very very easy to depress when the engine is running. Not joking, it is seriously easier then the gas pedal. I dont think once i start driving it that i cant get used to such a touchy brake pedal. I dont remember the brake being that easy when i bought the truck.
What is this a sign off? Anything on it way out cuasing this?
Is there anything that can be adjusted, or do i just need brake pads?
Also, im too lazy to make another thread, besides, not to many people respond when i do make one concerning it, so here goes.
My 2.9 in this 87 bronco has lifter tapping.
Once started there is no tapping, but shorty after (10-15 seconds) it quitely taps.
At normal temperature the engine is tapping enough to cuase concern.
How long would the engine last with this condition?
I might do the clutch myself(actually will do), should i take the engine out as an opertunity to take off the drian pan and replace the oil pump/clean oil screen or is this problem beyond that.
I have little experience with the 2.9 myself but I would switch to a thicker oil before removing the enginge to clean the screen. On the brakes have you changed anything such as brake pads anther option if it is squshy you might need to bleed them.
Could be several things - worn pads or shoes, rear brakes out of adjustment, a leaky brake line (very common in older vehicles), a bad master cylinder...
Have you checked to see if it's just low on brake fluid? Have you noticed fluid on the ground where you park? Does it brake okay, or do they start to grab only when the pedal is close to the floor? If you pump them does the pedal come up?
As far as the engine noise goes, 2.9s are known for that. Short of an engine rebuild, there's really not a simple fix. If it's relatively quiet, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Make sure it doesn't overheat, keep the coolant level right and change the oil regularly.
I asked how long the engine would last becuase i didnt plan on doing anything major to stop it, LOL. Im going to get a 4.0 v6 once this 2.9 goes.
About the brake pedal, im sure theres no leak, becuase if you press the pedal down enough it becomes firm weather or not its running. You cannot get the pedal within 1 1/2 inches from the floor so I know there isnt air in the system. But its like the first 2 inches of movement when applying them are very easy. It seems like the vacum booster is applying too much boost.
