This time, its not my bronco thats busted, its my wallet.
Ive decided the bronco II is now a daily driver...so theres things i need to do before i start driving this thing aorund, ill be getting my permit soon and i want this thing to pass inspection.
The rust im fixing is going along very well, so thats on check off the old list....
I need a muffler, took the old one off cuase it was leaky....sorta. I prolly woulda passed inspeciton with it, why did i take it off??? Stupid me.
Any way i saw a warlock muffler that i can adapt to fit my bronco. What it is is a high flow muffler, with a section you can un-cap for a nice sound, and you can cap it for when you dont want the sound and to go to inspection and not get pulled over.
Do you know if sport mufflers are strictly banned as far as inspection, or would i be able to get away with it if its capped and they dont hear or see it.
Also, im not doing a lift kit...piontless. Maybe later if i dont sell this truck . I do need a newer rear suspention done, prolly just get the garage to do that, sence i have a lack of tools, ill worry about it when it starts draggin the bumper ... need an alinement, and most likely shocks too.
With that sed, what is the maximum tires i can run, ive heard 31's can work, any ideas. I need new tires anyway.
Also my bronco makes that everknown sowing machine valve tapping sound, what can i do to prolong the engine life? Possibly what can i do to stop this sound all together?
found one in jegs for 19.99, even though itll last maybe a year, i think il get it. itll most likley pass inspection then, and if not. it isnt a big loss
It passed inpection when we bought it. so im pretty sure there fine. the only reason no muffler will fail you i becuase of the loudness of it, and possible "carbonmonoxcide Poisoning" phsh...give me a break. Yeh, you just might die in your truck if you sit in there will all the windows closed, and no vents on for about 10 hours for it to biuld up enough carbon to kill you then yeh, its an issue, otherwise its just stupid.
If we didnt need mufflers i woulda just ran me a pipe right out the side...i wish nj was cool like that. Too bad.
Any thoughs on the valve sound though? Whats cuaseing that?
The 2.9 is known for valve noise, what wright oil are you running? Also a search of this forum and the Ranger forum might give you a few possible ideas, some people have had good luck cleaning the pump screen.

Loose rod bearings for me, switching to a thicker weight synthetic blend helped a lot. The bearings would let too much oil pass and not let it build enough pressure to lube the top end.
Now what do you mean by rod?, i assume cam shaft bearings you mean. If it turns out to be that then im just going to put the thicker oil in it and drive it to death, then off with the 4.0 swap!! lol.
Do you have to remove then motor to drop an oil pan? Maybe i can do that this summer to see if the screen is clogged?

By rod bearings I mean the connecting rod bearings. They are on the crank where the rods connect. If they are loose then all of your oil pressure is lost on the bottom end before it has a chance to make it to the top.
I dont see how that effects oil pressure though, you mean the oil actually runs through channles made in the crank shaft then up to the top end, thats gay, and seems like to would be very troublesome if it got loose like yours did.
wouldnt loose rod bearings cuase for a a knocking, or rattling all on there own?

I'm not sure if you're asking if I know what I'm talking about or how this actually work? To answer your question though you do not need to hear slapping in a 2.9 to have loose rod bearings. Loose rod bearings are like having a hole in the bottom of a bucket, you can keep filling but it's still going to fall out of the bottom.
I asume you know wht your talking about. I meant gay as in something that if went wrong, would cuase your tons of trouble. lol, ive had plenty of those problem before.
So what do the rod bearings have to do with the path from the oil pump to the top end. Do you hav a picture, or somthing you can post, cuase i really dont understand how this would happen.
