all 350's had a solid front 60... that's what makes them a 350...
nope... wrong, from 80-85.5 they used TTB D50HD front which was complete junk. the desireable D60's were those open knuckle versions 78/79 and then again in 86 they went back to solid 60's up front. in 1992 ford decided to go cheap and started building them with ball joint instead of king pins. by design king pins are stronger but much more difficult to change when the time comes (if it ever does). then ford changed yet again in 2000 when they redesigned the axle with unit bearing hubs and a metric bolt pattern
hope this helps. if ytou need any more info check out www *dot* pirate 4 *by* 4 *dot* com
thanks cutts those were the years i was looking for. the reason i ask is because i have the chance at getting this old piece of crap 350 for free and i know its got the 7.3 diesel but im not sure if its the turbo or non turbo so im trying to weed out the possible years it could be. hopefully its the kingpin version.
I'm pretty sure that it wasn't untill after 1992 that the 7.3 replaced the 6.9 so you probably have ball joints. I'm sure someone will corect me if I'm wrong. BTW there have been a few articles in magazines that say that ball joints aren't all that much weaker, hey you still got a dana 60 (and not to mention a whole truck, with a rear Stearling) for nothing?
If you don't want a freebie holler at me and I will hual it away Slightly weaker knuckles or not, I think being able to run full on 35 spline axles and Beef U-joints is the + to any 60. Balljoints are harder to go crossover though
it was like 87/88 thaty the 7.3 replaced the 6.9. it was in 93 when the 7.3NA (no turbo) was replaced by the powerstroke (with the turbo)
-cutts-
In '93 and '94 the NA 7.3 was the standard diesel with the turbo IDI as an option. In 94.5, the Powerstroke became an option and was only available with a 5 speed.

o yea, my bad... i get the years ford changed from kingpins to balljoints (in 93) and the years ford bumped from NA 7.3 to a powerstroke (92.5) mixed up all the time. i knew it was somewhere in there!
