tire problem steering wheel shimmy
Hi all..Im having the dreaded steering wheel shimmy as I have for a long time now, it started after I bought my 2005 loaded F150 last year after about 2000 miles I took it to the dealer once and they balanced the tires but it only helped a slight bit. Now it is 14,000 miles later and I just found the time to bring it back because Ive been way too busy ..now they tell me the warranty for tires is 12 months or 12,000 miles for balancing issues..but I remember getting something in the mail from Ford stating that Ford was extending the BF goodrich warranty to 36 months or 3-years and I cannot find that paperwork that I got but I recall it stating that it would cover the tires for rough riding abnormal wear, vibrations etc. does anyone here have that same warranty on their tires from Ford or does anyone have any info or a copy of that Ford tire warranty paperwork it is seperate from the owners manual warranty info booklet and was sent to me about 3 months after I purchased the truck, like I said I lost mine and the dealer sucks..Steve
You should not have to try and find the paperwork. The dealer is an idiot. They know, if they say they don't, tell them to find out because Ford did extend the warranty on the tires. I had to buy Nitto's to get rid of my steering wheel shimmy after they replaced tires, "new updated steering rack", and numerous balance jobs. My dealer is good and got Ford to reimburse me for the tires. Don't sweat not finding your paperwork.
so the new updated rack didn't help? which Nittos did you get? Im willing to do whatever it takes to get this truck riding right I had two new Dodges and had serious problems with both so for now Ford is it..
Go to this web sit for part and look to right hand side for do it your self and look at recall info on ford truck tires may be this can help. and here is the web sit parts america.com

I got 295/70/R17 Nitto Grapplers. The rack helped some but was not a permanent cure. I will say even with the Nitto's I have to make sure a certain guy at discount tire does the balancing or it will shimmy. As long as this guy does it I will not have a shimmy. I rotate them every 6,000 miles and I do not get a shimmy. With the stock tires I had every shop in town try to get them to balance and the longest I could make it without a shimmy was about 2,000 miles. These trucks are very sensitive to tire imperfections/imbalances.
Now ford customer service says my vehicle 2005 f-150 is not listed as extended warranty on tires from the original 12000/12 months to 36000/3years.. she took my vin# and said it was vehicle specific bull#$@$%% I did get that stupid letter with the sticker in the mail now I cant find it because I Had moved right after I got it..now what?

Go to the dealer and explain to them you did receive the letter and be polite but persistant. It really should not matter if you have a copy of the letter or not. If the dealer still acts ignorant, go to another dealer and be sure and let Ford know they have an ignorant dealer.
would you be willing to post a copy of that warranty?? I have goodrich 18s but I did get that letter with the sticker from Ford shortly after I bought the truck and the label program#04L24 states 2004-2005 F-150s excluding the heritage so im assuming since I got the letter and sticker that I would be covered
I would not have a problem with it but my service record is longer than a life long criminals arrest records and it would take a while. I do not think you should have any issues, the dealer is just trying to make you go away, don't.
I just talked to someone else at ford cutomer service who called the dealer now the dealer says he knows about the extended warranty but is not sure if it will apply to my truck because it does not include normal road wear and road hazards can you beleive it..what a piece of work that guy is... now Im waiting for the service manager to call me he is investigating if he can balance my tires on the warranty.. who ever heard of tires that have to be balanced every six months..the standard and extended tire warranty does state it covers vibration or ride harshness and uneven or rapid tread wear
