I borrowed my buddy my truck to use moving his stuff from one house to another, this is over a few states....He returns the truck to me with almost the exact milage....he said he knew that by unplugging a connection on the transmission and also the speed sensor on top of the rear axle that this would put the trans into a fault and those not run the speedo, or the odom...I didn't ask him to do this but not that its done everyone is telling me about the pcm and it records everything....I understand my friend was trying to repay the favor, but I wasn't expecting this!!!...apparently the truck shows a milage on the odom and he said the speedo never worked, but does the ttruck still track miles on the pcm somehow????????? what kind of trouble am I in for??????????
This transmission is fully electronic and won't work without all the connections plugged in. The PCM HAS to see all the connections to validate all the parameters.
The odo disconnect itself is recorded on the PCM, and could be an issue come trade-in or sale time. Never, ever do this- can really run afoul of a host of Federal and local laws concerning mileage disclosure.

and i understand its time and date stamped. now what i dont understand is when will the dealer hook up the truck to check the milage? what would be the grounds for such a check?
I got a question pertaining to mileage. Say that in your truck your odometer goes bad and a new one has to be installed. The new one has more or less miles on it than the car originially has. Is there any way to find out the actual original miles on it by pluging it up to something after the new odometer has been installed. another thing, since the new odemeter has been installed, a new computer module had to be installed because the transmission was starting to jump real bad. a new computer module was installed and the transmission was back to normal. could the new module being installed mess up the original mileage in the cars computer? many thanks.
are you serious inboundfx4? what if it was only a matter of a couple thousand of miles? i thought the odometer was the only instrument on a car that recorded the actual original mileage on the car.
Abah, intentionally tampering with the odometer is a federal crime. Federal law says that you have to disclose that the odometer is not correct when the title is transfered during a sale or trade which means there can be fines and/or imprisonment if it's falsely reported. There's a spot on the title that has to be checked off and that indicates the odometer is not correct. As long as that's done then I don't believe you're breaking the law (as long as you didn't tamper with it - which doesn't sound like thats the case in this thread - during the title transfer anyway). So, yes, you can go to jail/get fined but it's sort of like copying DVD's: it's not legal, or ethical, but you probably can get away with it.
