adding seatbelts
guys-
i just finished bolting a set of shoulder belts into my '68. the came out of a '78. now...my question- how do i know that they work?
when i yank on them, the belt keeps on coming out- they don't seem to "lock" automatically, the way i'm used to. (in my modern car, anyway.)
how do the seatbelts know when to "lock", and how can i test them?

Go look for some rumble strips on a paved road or look for a Washboard road somewhere.While you're driving keep trying to lean forward. If the belt locks and stops you from doing so,I'm sure you'll have figured out that they work.
Of course you could always do what Ford did in a commercial when the F-150 came out.
That was to drive down a set of railway tracks on the ties with an egg in the cab that didn't move but, the front I-Beam suspension the wheels were just a hammering away.

I may be wrong on this, but I think if you hit the brake they should lock up. Sit down, strap in, hit the brake and see if you can lean forward. If you can't then you're good.
