On my 54 f100 with a 57 292 i am still having water pump problems.
I have i guess the 239 water pump housing( is the small one) with a high mount fan. unknowing i ordered and painted a high mount fan pump with the big case. so now i have a usless painted water pump. so i ordered a car pump that is the right size but no fan mountes except on the hub of the pump. i went to my junk yard and got a fan, pulley, and spacer. so before i paint all this stuff will this work? any pictures of this in a 53-56? the fan, pully and spacer are off a 57-60 f200 i belive. my main concern is if it will clear the fan shroud? i know i can drop the rad but will it be enough? Anyone know a source for the small high mount water pump? anyone that rebuildes them? or where i might find a kit? I guess if all else falies i will switch the timing covers but i hate to if i can make something work. thanks
So, did you put the 239 timing cover on the 292? Seems to me you can just use the 292 timing cover and a truck pump (Mine for my '56 272 came from Dennis Carpenter). The blade mounts directly to the pump, so you do away with the high-mount fan. However, you may need the later-style fan shroud to to this. Hope this makes sense...

Reason: More Info
If you decide to go the pump mounted fan then your fan shroud will not work. You will need to move the radiator 2" Up or down I forget which, and use a 56 shroud. The 56 radiators were drilled for the 54-55 and the 56 locations but the 54-55's were only drilled in one location.
i am still water pump less. I guess i am going to have to change the whole timing cover just to put on a water pump.( any suggestion or tips on that) I think i may have found a cover or two at the local junk yard. any one have any other ideas? i got a car pump that fits my housing but the fan will not clear. ( i droped the rad to the lowest adjustment) after i rounded up a fan and pulley number two. anyone have a good 239 water pump with the high mount fan they might want to part with or where i can find one? or a rebuilder???? big win can you tell me any more about the 56 rad and shroud? the truck i can pull the stuff off of is a 56 f600. the rad is probly shot but the shroud is good. i did not have time to look at it this evening. i am open to ideas and suggestions. i hate that the my summer is about gone(have to go back to school) and can not get my truck out of the garage( such is life) so in summary i have two water pumps that are new( a big housing high mount fan pump, and a small car style pump).two fan hub mount pulleys, a high mount fan, a car hub mount fan and spacer off a 57 f100. and i am still out a water pump. and none of the combination works. thanks to all.
I really think if you use the car pump with the fan mounted directly onto the water pump all you need is a f100 56 fan shroud. I dont have any extra 56 f100 fan shrouds. I only have the high mount style shrouds.
PM me your phone # and maybe we can figure out something
