Modify Stock Intake

Nearly everyone agrees that the intakes will make more power.

Has anyone modified the stock intake? I took mine off yesterday and looked at it for a while. I cranked the truck up without it and it backfired once when I revved it a bit. Didnt do it again, but after reading about a lean condition, that is probably not the way to go. This was still breathing through the stock filter but with out the long crazing tubing.

I dont have a good feeling about the stock filter, but the main problem with the stock intake seems to be the spot where it goes into the fender. That is a tiny hole. The rest looks ok. Inside looks smooth and decent radius. Also anyone that has ever had the stock tube off, they know it has 1/4 holes drilled in it at various locations. For what reason, I have no Idea.

I would think those hole's would be for water draining to keep it outta the airbox when you hit a deep rut with water in it..

I took the end piece off the end of the intake tube( the smaller part that goes into the fender), it didnt make a huge difference but i think that it may have made a small difference in taking off easily, it seems like it doesnt take as much peddle to get up to speed.

How the heck did you get it off? I tried and couldnt make much progress. My truck only has 900 miles, so I didnt want to tear it up, but that thing seems to be on there!

After i pulled the whole intake off, from the airfilter to the fenderwell, i just pulled towards the front of the truck, then i had to take a flathead screwdriver and pry apart the tube where the acordian part to the solid part, i kept pulling the screwdriver around the outside of the tube, it was a pain.

Looks like if one takes that end off you could use an elbow & route to the large square hole next to the radiator behind the headlight which is open to the grille. Seems like that would at least let cool air in? Has anyone thought about trying that?

yes i've thought of this. in the middle of building it i got to thinking about air swirling at the elbo. so then i started planning on a dual line coming out to both sides. now i'm working on biulding a shorter version that will fit under a ramair hood, in which i'll make functual.

for about $250 airraid and k&n have good modded intakes.

those little holes are for the air to circulate into the baffles and make it more quieter.
