Reading thru the posts and catching up a little...been too busy to play lately.
One of our newest members "Fiddysix F" has come up with a name for a third classification of members... (see his post at "NU-B with a question)
We all know about the stockers... primal thinkers who are paranoid about cloth wire and inspection paint daubs..
Then there the darksiders who's objective is to build their trucks like "they should be" (whatever that means) and some of us do it over several times
Todd has come up with a term that will cover a lot of middle ground... He said he planned on being "putty gray" ...somewhere between the light (stock) and dark (custom) so the new term is
GRAYSIDERS !!! it's for the guys in the middle that do mild custom work that can be returned to stock easily or run off the cliff to the darkside.
Lets' hear it for Todd !!! Less than 20 posts and he's found his niche already... I personally am still looking !! Although I think I'm too far over the edge to go back to seafoam green and door handles...
I've been (another definition) a graysider for years and it gets me cheaper coffee and reduced admission at the movies... but this term fit in here perfectly I think!!!
Welcome Todd and you've got a nice start on your truck... and if you stand on the right rear corner of the bed it will probably straighten out
To me,
whiteside = all stock,
greyside = mechanical changes and body "improvements" that do not change the overall design.
darkside = Body modification that changes the overall design and look of the vehicle.
For instance, extend the cab without really modifying its shape is greyside - chop the cab is darkside. French the headlight is darkside, fog lamps are greyside at best.
I am no expert, but I like these - and will stick to them.
cool ideal, now i just have to decide what i am. 59 cab, 61 frame,63 axels, power steering, booster brakes, flatbed, 292 engine for i will never put a chevy motor in a ford, it's like putting a hemi in a chevy it just makes you feel bad.imo

Good to see not all of you are diehards! I guess my truck is getting very blackish... Boxed frame, custom X member, Chev. drivetrain(C4 Corvette)... thats where she sits so far... long way to go from done.

That is OK, we even have a 500 CI caddy powered truck in the group. When you get tired of sitting so long, I will transplant the Briggs and Stratton from my lawn tractor into a Ford and come give you a tug around the block!
I do believe I will sit out further association with anymore tags that may revile my true idenity or links to my past. Such action could endanger the whole group.
As for jniolon, reminds me of that musical group, Asleep At The Wheel.

thanks PennDick for that little jab... with friends like you ?????
anyway... part of my problem is that at 58.9 years of age I'm learning a new career. After 25 years in computers and pcs and 12 years in maintenance planning... I'm now struggling to learn everything you need to know about industrial safety. Yesssirree... I is a safety coordinator (notice correct spelling, that took almost a week) I'm overwhelmed with OHSA, NSSB, LSMFT.
I've got to have training to become a COMPETENT PERSON. Tell me Dick ?? how much training is that gonna take ?????
And you wonder how I forget little triffles I hear on the FTE board ??? Now, I'm finished with my come apart.... please continue with your harrassment of poor old John..
later
John (cool, but somewhat frayed around the edges)
