I have found a 1972 ford motorhome with a 390 and a C6 tranny. It has only 4000 miles on it.Could anybody tell me the horsepower and torque of this engine. Would this make a good donar for a F150 daily driver or would i have to change heads cam and pistons because of torque and rpm ranges?
For 1971:
HP with a 2v carb is 255 at 4400 rpm, torque 376 at 2600 rpm.
Most 70 and 71 engines came with 2v. Some eariler versions had 4v carbs and more power, but 70 was the start of emission laws. Be aware that frequently motor home manufactures sell the previous years powertrain as the next model. What this means is that your find might actually be a 71 motor and trans. It takes motor home folks several months to convert a factor unit into something they want to sell, so they just call it the next model year.
