as you all might remember i recently swapped out my 351w for my freshly rebuilt 302..i put on an edlebrock performer intake 4 bbl dual plane and i put my 351 4 bbl carb back on because my throttle cable and kickdown lever wouldnt match the other 2 bbl carb off the 302..well i got it runnin about a week ago and broke it in, put a little over 400 miles on it so far and i put the gas to the floor today and it downshifted like it should but a few seconds later it started sputterin like crazy and about died when i let off...i was wondering how i could fix this problem..besides not putting it to the floor anymore ( for you smart alects on here) lol ...i wouldnt figure a stock holley carb from a 351w is over 550 cfm and i was told by numerous people the max you should put on a 302 is 600cfm so why would it be flooding out? the 351w was an 86' and the 302 was an 82' if it matters or helps..please help me figure this out because the only adjusting screw i can find is the idle
are you sure it flooded out or did it run out of fuel? did it start back up. how has it been running otherwise. Is it a holley style carb?any additional info would be helpful.
yea it was flooding out.. it kept runnin but bogged down after about 5 seconds to the floor..its a holley style motorcraft carb i guess..whatever came stock on the 351w in 1986...i fixe the problem though..the distributor needed put in time a little better..i didnt have a timing light at the time and i just put it where it sounded good at idle and not when it revved up..it was at i think 25-30 btc and now its at 9..the manual for that engine says from 8-10 so yea..its a rough idle at first but when it gets warmed up its perfect..i put it to the floor earler today and it didnt even try sputterin ..kept going till i hit 85 and let off...and didnt try to die then eaither...and it got there really quick...and now im not seeing the black smoke from the exhaust from runnin too rich because the timing was off a bit so its all good now...thanks though for the tip..sorry it took so long to get back i just got a second job and havnt had time to get on here
I have had a similar problem as this except mine is with a 400m and a 4bbl carb. I have moved the Timing all over and even tried adjusting the carb a little bit. Any info on what i should do?
