Hey Guys
I had the 84 4X4 with a 302 2 BBL carb out in the snow the other day. I had problems that I thought were related to moisture either in the ignition or soaking down the airfilter it was running rough. I made it home with some help then couldn't get the truck to start seemed flooded. So I left it for a while went back and it fired right up. I thought it was dried up so I go out in the snow again. This time blow a rad hose, antifreeze all over the engine compartment. Stop truck patch hose fill with antifreeze. Won't start again. Get dragged home and I tried to start by dropping the clutch no fire no nothing. Get a rad hose dry every thing and try to start. Flooded again lots of backfires through carb, exhaust everywhere. Start airfilter on fire. Then I here flames go right through the engine. Keep cranking untill flames disappear Put out fire on smoldering airfilter. Try one more time fires right up and purrs. leave it warm right up it seems ok when I shut it off it seemed to flood a bit on startup then it was ok drove ok power was there. Try it today no go smells flooded put my foot to the floor to clear it makes it worse it will idle sometimes then seems to flood out. I need some help
Sounds like the float valve in the carburetor is sticking open. Next time try tapping the float bowl with a rubber or wooden mallet to see if that stops the flooding. May be time to clean and put a kit in the carburetor.
Hey Guys
I tried both of those already I thought that smacking the carb seemed to help but not the last time I also had the top of the carb off and had a look at the float it seemed to be OK.
Changed Plugs rotor Distributer cap put in new neddle and seat and new power valve.
It runs and idles but as soon as you put your foot in it it starts backfiring and sounds like its flooding out. Looks like it has used a pile of fuel also. As it warms up it gets worse when cool you can at least drive it when warm anything over an idle starts the missing and backfiring.
Any suggestions

What about your timing? I know my 83 was doing the same thing and i ended up having to reset the timing and all was well. just turned the distributor shaft out toward the front of the truck a little and that done it. may be something to check into. good luck
