Hi guys-
I'm trying to figure this out and need some help.
I currently have an excellent 2000 v10 supercab shortbed F250.
But I'm looking to trade up.
More than few things have changed on the 2005 and newer F250s. I've tried to piece it together by searching, but I'm still unclear on a few things.
Basically can someone help and give me the rundown on the changes.
Engine, suspension, transmission, etc.
Thanks so much.
Mike
Thanks guys.
Seems like Ford just made a good thing better.
I have more questions if you don't mind.
Does anyone know when the V10 got the torqueshift tranny?
Was it 2005 or later in 06?
Did that year also get a different front end? (dana 60)
As far as suspension goes, that seems vastly improved.
Any chance the Rancho 9000 adjustable shocks I bought 6 months ago would fit on the new truck?
Again thanks for the replies.
Thanks bfr250sd!
On my 2000 I added a leaf to both the front and rear to carry the added weight of my plow.
Any chance you know how to increase front end weight capacity on the newer model with coil springs?
Also what final gear ratios were available in '05?
I have 3.73 currently.
You can order the truck with the snow plow prep package, which include the heavier front springs to accomodate the plow.
For ther rear, make sure you get the auxillary overload springs. They don't stiffen your ride up all. They don't actually come into play until you've loaded the back of the truck up so that it has dropped a few inches. They they engage the perches and provide the extra capacity.
As far as gear ratio's, the 6.0 only comes with 3.73's, unless you get a DRw with the tow boss setup. Then you get 4.30's
For gas engines, you can get 4.10's or 4.30's. Seriously consider getting 4.30's, you won't regret it a bit.
O.k. 4.10's or 4.30's. I've seen many people here swear by the the 4.30's.
But I don't tow anything. Is getting the 4.30 gear ratio still an asset?
I will again buy a v10 so-
Will gas mileage improve?
Less shifting, so its better for the transmission?
Thanks.
Here's the deal, the difference in MPG between 4.10's and 4.30's is miniscule. But, if you plan to go ANY bigger tires, you will want to get the 4.30's. You said you will be plowing, so that there to would push me to the 4.30's. The V10 has a sweet spot of around 2250 - 2500 rpm's. That is where you want to be at highway speeds. It's right in the meat of the torque curve.
As for shifting, they won't make a huge difference there. The 3V V10 and the TS combo is awesome. You won't even make a dent in that transmission.
Got it.
I think my current truck is running 16" wheels.
You wouldn't happen to know what stock tire size on a 2005 is?
Thanks for all the help bfr250sd! I really appreciate it.
Mike
17's are pretty much the stockers; with the 20's on the Harley's.
I believe the stock tires are 265/70/17's. If it has the Continentals on it, make the dealer put on some BFG's or GY's. The Conti's are generally hated, especially in winter weather. Do a search for the Continental's in this forum and you'll see plenty of hate mail.
Yeah- I agree. I run BFGoodrich Allterrains. Best tire I've ever had on a truck.
Too bad the ones I have (less than 6 months old) won't fit the new wheels.
I guess my last quesion should be-
When it comes to shopping for a used 2005 Supercab longbed V10, is there anything I should look out for or avoid?
Thanks.
Get an OASIS report on it. It'll tell you if the truck has been in for repairs, recall, etc. The dealer can run this for you. If they won't, walk away.
The biggest thing with the '05's, is take it for a test drive; get it on the highway with a little bit of a bumpy section. Some of the 05's had a problem with the "death wobble". You'll know it immediately. The whole truck will be shaking and it will want to pull the wheel out of your hand.
Other than that, the 05's are solid. The 3V V10 (from what captchas, wrenchtraveler, fredvon and all the other 3V guys like to rub in ) is a pulling monster. The TorqueShift with the V10 is an awesome combo.
