i need some help identifying a half-moon shaped assembly that is located between the oil pan and transmission. a rock kicked up and punctured a hole in it resulting in an oil leak. it appears to be attached with approx half dozen bolts. thanks for helping out a first time psd owner still learning about and enjoying this great machine
Sounds like the trans inspection cover. Does it have a rubber plug min the bottom of it?
If it the cover the rock didn't cause the leak. It only let the fliud trapped in ther to escape. Fluid could be front tranny seal or rear main seal or leaking down the back of block which could be coming from the intake valley area.
yea..based on what you say it must be the inspection cover...i can see the hole from the rock or whatever punched a hole in the panel and it is definitely oil seeping out. suppose next thing is to determine the source of the oil....thanks for the help.....
they normally have a small whole in them to let oil and water drain. its about 90% likely that the oil is coming fromt he top side of the engine check there first.
Most likely source is in the valley under the fuel filter. A couple known trouble spots ther. fuel leaks (fuel pump) or oil leaks, HPOP (hi pressure oil pump) live there.
