I think we ought to amend the constitution to say that anyone born after Jan 1, 2000, who smokes starting at any age, forfeits all rights to health care, public or private, for smoking related illness. Part of the law would provide that at the beginning of every year of school, K-12, the kids are told this. Morphine and a coffin would be all you get.

Smoke on, numbskulls....

i say be and let be. i don't smoke, never have, but i don't care if someone does or not. i don't think it should be in restraunts, unless its made to where people can't smell the others smoke, but should be allowed in bars and such.

as far as health care, we start forfeiting rights to smokers, whats next, fat poeple? people who drive? people who play sports? everything causes something at sometime, if they pay the insurance and the taxes, they should get the smae treatment as everyone else. if it ain't smoking, then the insurance companies will think of other reasons to raise prices.

as far as underage smoking, stupid habit of course, and makes people look stupid, like trying to be cool or act grown up i guess, but hey, its easier for a kid to get meth where i am at than to get a pack of ciggertes, i rather them get the cigs........

I don't allow it with my 6 kids. But I know several parents that do I don't judge them for it it's thier parental choice. The second oldest stole a pack from us and tried to be cool with some friends and got sick off the first one and hasn't done it again. Of course I found out one pack was missing when I got home from work and confronted her about it. So she relay didn't get a chance to hide it when she came in. I could have done what my father did! Make her sit down and smoke 6 cigs in a row to make her get really sick. But I am not my dad in some respects. I may be tough on my kids but I am fair. of the six kids 5 are in school the older 4 are either on honnor roll or close to being on it, youngest in school is in 1st grade.
I agree with bf250

Whats next if you have one drink a year the auto insurance companies won't insure you?
If you smoke in your home or allow someone to you can't get home owners insurance for fire?
Always remember insurance companies want the money, they don't want to pay you if they don't have too. It's easier to get insured, but heck of a time to get them to pay you!

I dont think about teens smoking, but I DO wonder WHY they started smoking. With all the no smoking bans, health care ads, it is not like young people today do not know cigarettes are a harmful substance that is SO addictive . The question I would like to see answered is why do they start smoking ?

In regards to the drain on the health care system. I've heard from several reliable sources that smokers and obese people (although they may get into the health care dollars earlier) actually use less of the health care money because they die at a much younger age.

That interesting cause only a week or two ago you absolutely hated smoke as stated in your previous thread:

Not trying to bust your chops but maybe you should try to remember what you posted before and keep your story consistant

I have heard a cigarette described as "A white object with a fire on one end and a fool on the other". There are many who disagree with that, but their numbers are declining.

I too am a smoker. But I never even tried cigarettes (or other vices) til' after I was 18. I can't say I'm against underaged smoking (nor for it) but most of the time if you see a young kid smoking there usually very impressionable lacking there own opinions and adopting someone else's. In other words smoking for the wrong reasons. And not all kids.... but most. No slander intended so please no one take that the wrong way.

And I also like my lungs but I have two...... besides I'm saving my miles for the official Marlboro Iron Lung. (That way I'll be paying for it myself and won't be a burden on the health care system)

I have never smoked in my 53 years of life. My oldest two kids do(ages 24 & 28) but they were raised with their mom after our divorce in 89 and she smoked like there was no tomorrow.
Disgusting habit that should be avoided. I have lost several kinfolk as a result of their smoking.

I smoked when I was 16, then I started dipping (cause I could do that in class) then my senior year when I was partying all the time I started smoking agin and quit dipping (girls didn't like dipping as much and it was too hard to drink beer and dip at the same time), did that for a few years then gave it up and started dipping again later in college when I was spending long hours in front of a computer then finally quit dipping in the last year or so.

To all who have recently started and you think it's cool..... you're a dumb***!
To all who still do it amd know that you'd like to quit it is a mind thing more than anything.
To all who are happy with it then I'm glad you've found something to make you happy!
To A_G. take one side or the other on the issue and stick with it, you'll look like a fool later in life!
