I am an adult, the following will tell you how I voted and why.
You can't save everyone from everything, as much as everyone would like it to. It just will not and cannot happen. (how many laws do we have on the books here in the U.S. that are enacted without any way to enforce them?) The baby boomers all smoked, drank and got married at age 15, they seemed to turn out ok. Something I saw in an earlier post to the effect of after 2000 they cannot sue or collect benifits. More like 1958 when the first warning was put on cigarettes. How the tobacco lawsuit ever went through is beyond my wildest imagination. Sad part about it is the only people who got rich were the scum of the earth lawyers.

This thread isn't about Adults like you who smoke today.
The thread is about Underage Children and today's adults opinion of THEM taking up smoking.
I feel bad for this kids that fall under due to peer pressure.
If a child gets "Educated" about the risks and then waiting until he/she is of LEGAL age before they start smoking that is their business.
Most of the Educated children I know of Don't Smoke because they are smart enough to know that is a harmful, disgusting habit to get into.
Ways of dying:
The Flip side <> Educated children also know the dangers of driving and make good choices there are well ......but, to "Not Smoke" is ruling out ONE LESS thing to kill you.
Not enough children have a mentor to help deal with things like this.
Thats fine. I'm all about keeping kids from smoking. But when somebody like that starts pointing their finger at ME, yeah, you BETCHA, I take it personally. If you're over 18 and want to smoke, more power to ya, as far as I'm concerned. If you're old enough to put your life on the line for your country (my personal choice was the USMC also, BTW), you're old enough to order a drink in a bar, and have a smoke to go with it. If you end up in said bar, under those circumstances, and I'm in there, I'll most probably buy you BOTH.
THIS person, on the other hand, is the kind of person who'd walk into a bar, declare he/she/it doesn't like smoke, and try to get the laws changed to suit them. Fine. Try it. Expect a gunfight.
But I don't need ANYBODY to do my thinking for me.
Gunner, I'm with you on the age thing. This thread isn't about drinking but to me it's stupid to make the age 21 to drink when at 18 you can go to prison or go into the military and put your butt on the line. As for the whole "legal age" thing, I think it's just an arbitrary age pulled out of thin air. Studies have shown that proper, mature risk assesment abilities aren't fully developed until the age of 25. Maybe we should make 25 the "magic age" for everything. Would it be so hard to let the PARENTS decide what is right for their kids instead of our government and the "do-gooders"? I smoked for 15 years but basically quit 2 years ago. Now I only light up when I decide to grab a 6 pack of Killians and enjoy my porch. My kids won't smoke because it will be forbidden, but when they are old enough to move out and take care of themselves and make their own decisions then it will be up to them.
Bottom line: It's not a good thing to start doing, but it is a personal choice that should involve the kid and the parents ONLY.
Smokers are saving Social Security. The average smoker lives to 65. So they pay into Social Security all there working lives and draw very little out of it. I don't smoke and don't care that some of my friends smoke. Cigarette smoke doesn't bother me. I love cigar smoke and pipe smoke.
