First post to this site, so I'll give truck information first.
1998 Ranger 4cyl 2WD, 89,000 miles, Reg. Cab, Step Side bed.It has been a good runner....until now.
Problem is the truck pulls to the right badly, even in slow speeds. I have checked the front bakes-they're good and no sticking. Checked back brakes-and they seem ok-probably should have new shoes soon. I have checked the wheel bearings in front, and can find no "play" in them. This pull to the right is so bad that going around a left curve-even slowly-the left front tire chirps. The Power Steering unit does groan a little when turning to the left, but the Fluid is at the proper level with no leaks. Any ideas would be great.Thx.
When truck pulls to the right, you have to pull steering wheel to the left, it balances out that way ha ha ! Welcome to the forum. It does sound more like a tire issue, either the algnment is off, or an under inflated tire, or a bad tire. I had a pinto that did that, it turned out to be a bad rack&pinion, but I'm not sure what year they started putting rack&pinion's in the ranger, any body else know?
Thanks for all the suggestions. I swapped the front right and right rear, and immediatley steering got better. So had all the tires replaced, and shocks-since the front right was bad. New tires+newshocks=happy truck.
thanks all!!
