well i had the juce platimun with the a2 -- trans shifted funny with it did not like what it was doing to the truck, the defuel on shifting takes alot of getting use to with the edge. went to a sct with custom tunes from innovative diesel and love it ! great power low egt's trans shifts great much better price and more to offer and less chance of issues with ford , just put stock flash in and disconnect batt. cables and no one knoes it was there i kept the a2 just for the gps how ironic , if you want an edge let me know i have one sitting in the garage
blankman,
Tthe Edge will get you a turbo timer, full gauge package (that you need) and tranny controls that YOU can change. I have found that most folks that have issues with the tranny is because they: 1. have not adjusted the Edeg to suit their tranny's operation or 2. their tranny is already hurt and it can't correct what's already damaged. The SCT will overwrite the stock Ford programming and make the tranny feel better but eventually if it is already hurt it will fail. I also reccomend that you stay away from the AEm dry filters all the Dodge guys that have used one reported less boost PSi as they are restrictive etc. Take a look at the AFE systems, the Edge/Superchips/Triple Dog and you'll be very happy. On exhaust look at the AFE systems, very very price competitive and much better than the Moto Blue stuff as far as installation goes. All the items I have reccomended will cost you slightly more than what you originally asked about, but you have a VERY expensive truck and a few bucks here or there isn't going to make a real difference in the long run, but the better quality products will !! Call us if you want we will make sure you get the best price and will be able to answer your questions too, unlike most retailers that are just selling boxes, we are a diesel ONLY place that drives and uses the products that we sell!
Blankman: the edge also provides a defuel option if you hit a max EGT that you've programmed. This is a little bit of insurance that will keep you from cooking your engine when your right foot over-rides your better judgement. Also, you can change your power settings on the fly, which is a nice option IMO. I would recommend setting it at the zero power setting until the engine is nice and warm and then change to another setting to your liking. I'm not a salesman but have spent some time studying the edge and like what I've seen. I'm not ready to get one yet but will probably go in this direction once I have more miles on my ride. Bottom line, get what you like but make sure you have some way of monitoring your EGTs. You can burn one up real quick if you're not watching the EGTs.
I have the older Edge juice/attitude combo. I love it. I would have gone with the platinum version if it were available when I purchased mine. I start my truck cold on setting 5 and have left it on the highest setting for the last 6 months, even in winter. I have found that under normal driving conditions I can get 16-17mpg city driving while on empty using setting five, defueling all shift levels, and low boost at the highest setting. I would not recommend using a tuner and it's highest settings without larger exhaust/downpipe and less restrictive intake. I would almost do the intake and exhaust first because the juice will raise EGTs considerably, especially with a heavy foot. I have talked with a few shops about their preference and the shop I trust likes the edge products because of the backdown and they believe that edge has the best engineering for the 6.0L. So that's my 2 cents.
Right now I have a 4" exhaust with increase diameter downpipe (no muffler, straight through), Airaid intake, and the juice/attitude and it runs great. I can spin the tires getting on the highway and leave my foot on the floor till 60-70mph without getting the EGTs above 1250. It was interesting though, it took a few days of running the same settings before the tranny started to shift more normal. It's was almost like the truck electronics had to learn how to compensate for the added HP.
