My clutch fan is going out. Was woundering it I could switch to an elec fan setup? I have heard that the clutch fans for out trucks are around $500. Just curious.

i have also been pondering this idea too, to free up some horsepower. i am soon getting a coolant temp gauge, so i could have it on an electric switch if i wanted to. i keep a keen eye on all of my parameters.

Dont' bother with electrics if you need to tow or haul. They can't keep up with demand.

from everything i hear eletric fans will work fine. there is alot of talk about it in the obs 7.3 aftermarket/upgrade forum at TDS. they are using fans from a windstar or taurus and they work good from what they say. it also depnds on how you hook them up. a couple of guys have even run around unloaded with no fan for over a year and never had any problems other than when they are stuck in traffic.

when towing i thnk you have may have an issue if you were loaded to the gills and running slow large hills but i think if you have a dual fan setup with both fans running you would be moving enough air but i would not run electric without an aftermarket coolant temp gauge as the stock guage is an idiot light with a needle.

My Mercedes wagon is having single electric fan and with 215 HP that is all it needs.
Gasoline engines produce more heat, than diesels.
The fans are mostly needed, when idling, or rolling in traffic.
Years ago, driving in colder Poland I removed colling fan completely from Fiat125. Drove like that whole year and the only time the temperature raised was in summer at long backup at stop lights. No AC tough.
